I never really understood people's fascination with traveling, and 'seeing the world'. For most non-western countries you'll be spending the vast amount of your time at some resort or tourist section with mostly other tourist and some native servants while doing stuff you could do in your own native country or city. Otherwise seeing some statue or going to the top of a building or seeing some exotic nature doesn't sound all that enthralling to me.

thoreau recommends properly traveling and mapping the inner-regions of one's mind, opposed to physical travel

That's the 2nd time you've mentioned not wanting to travel. What retort do you want, someone to list all the pro's?

You could just google "what are the pro's in travelling abroad" or something...

macbeth is socially isolated and reclusive in his own culture, what would alien cultures possibly have to offer him except more alienation?

I suppose seeing the inside of a 5 star egyptian hotel room would be marginally better than seeing the inside of a new jersey bedroom.

Depends on who is in that bedroom with you...

No matter what, do a basic course in language before anything, if you don´t speak spanish that is.
Already in Spanish 102 and will continue onto the next level for next semester.
If you speak well enough, than I would suggest option nr 2.
You can learn teh culture best by being there, much better than sitting in a familiar lecture room at home and then going there for 9 days. If you can deal with the commitment of leaving home for such a long time.
