wtf is this an arthur miller play or something. we're not all first-generation. in england old money vs. new money is a big thing.
afaik family wealth originates in land-owning gentry during napoleonic wars when shit was handed out
now your turn to give a rags-to-riches cry me a river immigrant story, no?
Why would I cry you a river? I'm well aware of who I am and where I come from. I don't think you realize how little money means in the grand scheme of things. My girlfriends parents were middle class growing up and now they're quite well off. Her mom is a teacher by choice and her father is a bond salesman. I've met their friends, many of whom are stockbrokers and the like and the thing that has always struck me is how retardedly simple it is to amass wealth if you go into the right field and put in your time. These aren't rocket scientists by any means. I respect their wealth for sure, but I recognize that the only thing that differentiates me from them is about forty years of work and the ability to not squander every penny that you take in. There isn't a whole lot more to it. So... talk to me in forty years and we'll compare portfolios.
Edit - I'm up 26% on my portfolio since June. While it's paltry, it's a start.
