The severed head of the lead Mexican investigator in the Falcon Lake case, Rolando Armando Flores Villegas, was delivered Tuesday in a suitcase to the Mexican military, Texas Rep. Aaron Pena told CNN.

But a spokesman for the attorney general of Tamaulipas state in Mexico said he had not heard the report.

"We have nothing official," said Ruben Dario-Rios, the spokesman. "We have not heard any report about one of our investigators being killed. We have over 1,000 investigators working for the state."

The report came a day after authorities in the Tamaulipas state attorney general's office gave conflicting information on whether authorities were pursuing a pair of suspects in the case of a U.S. citizen who disappeared during a sightseeing trip on the U.S.-Mexican border in South Texas.

While Luis Homero Uvalle, a spokesman for the office, told CNN the suspects are brothers who are "well known to this area" -- identifying them only as "El 27" and "El 31" -- Dario-Rios, the chief spokesman for the attorney general said, "We have nothing official about suspects in the disappearance of David Hartley. I do not know where that is coming from."

I was thinking Big Lebowski but I thought... "that's not really the line, now is it?"

Guess it was.

back on topic-ish:

Why haven't more PMCs gone into Mexico? Seems like it should be the big new market.

Guy I know got his safe stolen and they found it at a guys house who's head they found in Tampa Bay.  Apparently the dude owed some people, robbed guy I know of safe, took the money and instead of paying off his creditors he went and lost it on one of those gambling cruises.  Cops linked the safe to him (as there were some documents in it) along with some of the drugs inside it.

Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me?

We should allow this drug war to play itself out until only one gang is left standing. The following day we should legalize all the drugs that they are running

CNN's word over Mexico's? The article opens with a declarative statement, then asserts that it's being contested by Mexican authorities. Poor journalism, but good marketing.

Eh...  I'll take CNN's word over Mexico's.   Besides, Mexico itself isn't known for its safety for journalists, so I guess outside journalists are about the best we'll get covering a lot of the stories there.

Not a bad idea. The US drug policy is basically the reason why the Cartels are so powerful.

Obviously, this is big news here. Turns out the guy was not the "lead investigator" but rather one of the detectives involved. It clearly sends a message, but it's not quite the message CNN is reporting.

Certainly takes any suspicion off the wife, though.
