mac now... no viruses forever innit
Yah, because no one wants to make a virus for it. Waste of time tbh.

Recognized it was a fucking virus first time it popped up, cursed at myself for getting it, then proceeded to wipe it from my system, took me about 40 min.

No, the laptops are usefull, the desktops can be achieved much cheaper and better by building a PC (you can even put OSX on it).

Gee, it sure would be awesome if the dual-CPU mobos were sold to the public.

I've had the odd pop up virus here and there, but since I built my latest system I haven't got anything.  That leads me to another question -

Is there any reason I should have an antivirus program installed?  I don't d/l any torrents or anything from related sites, only patches/new drivers, etc.  Is there any need?  Usually I just run malwarebytes every so often to check if anything is infected...is that enough?

do you have an internet connection?

look, my company sits behind a hardware firewall, we have a corporate a-v suite installed, and we're even v-lanned between floors with different sub nets. the biggest threat to our network is

sneakernet. fucking thumbdrives are a dime a dozen, and after years of fighting the threat i've started teaching our users. i don't care if you catch a bug KENNINGS, i'm saying unless you*re on a sandbox without an ethernet connection, the potential to catch one is there.

do you want to be like finray and take a chance?

It's also better than running AV which saps your resources and interrupts at inopportune moments.

avast has game mode. f-secure has a small footprint. there's no reason not to, unless you are on a machine without internet access.

i scan thumbdrives on an auxillary comp before I use them on my machine.  I get your advice, just wondering if I need to bother installing an a/v program or if sweeps every so often would suffice.

Please don't compare me to finray.

sorry KEN. get microsoft security essentials, it's free, like the scotsman said.

Finray wrote:

it's free, it's better than nothing, and to answer your question - Knows nothing. why would you admit to having MSE installed after taking such an anti anti-virus stance?

MSE is pretty good, but doesn't have game mode like avast, doesn't have a sandbox like Kaspersky, or a small footprint like f-secure.
