In this case, and by your in-depth analysis, each and every president since Kennedy has been a puppet.
in-depth...ya thats worth it.  look at the thread.  dont be such a tard, don.
I'm sorry for that. And I agree with you. Presidents are puppets, all politicians are nowadays. The leaders of the capitalist world (read: western society and the 3rd world countries they exploit) are corporations. I won't sarcastically say "Go U.S.", instead I'll say "Go us".

Why? Because people like sweet food and they sell sweet products? People don't have a gun to their head forcing them to eat garbage. They simply eat it because it surrounds them. It surrounds them because it is what sells. There's no conspiracy, just poor diet choices.

If you want a real dissertation topic, study States Rights vs Federalism over the course of the nations history and how power has moved further and further away from the local level and been collected at the Federal level.
If you want to use this in a compare/contrast light, you can liken it to the recent creation of a central EU government and the inevitability of power moving away from individual countries and into the hands of said central government.

There is some history to the sugar lobby and the excessively high levels of sugar in US food.

Ok. So? Again, no one was forced to buy the product. Sweet foods sell. No conspiracy.

It's the corn lobby actually...  We use corn syrup instead of sugar cane in most foods because it's cheaper to use corn syrup due to the subsidies in place for corn.

If the market had no subsidies, then sugar cane would be cheaper to use.

End result is the same. Cane sugar, HFCS, all the same.

Well, it's better for the consumer when no subsidies are applied.

So don't buy those foods? Salt is a preservative and taste additive. The foods you are talking about are processed foods. Go create the same dish from scratch and you can put whatever you wish into it.

I don't disagree, I'm just stating that there isn't some giant conspiracy to get Americans hooked on sugary foods

Shrug. They're still sugar products designed to make food taste sweet. There are a lot of conspiracy theories surrounding HFCS that are floated by morons so that was what that comment was aimed at.

Most of our 'cane sugar' comes from sugar beets anyway.

That wouldn't surprise me.  Like a lot of other countries, our agricultural market is heavily subsidized and has gone through several different policies through the years.
