More project than design, there.
how is that art? it's a reproduction of a 2d painted image. the difference between a monitor displaying an image (i.e. by arranging pixels) and a minecraft player displaying a painting (i.e. by arranging in-game blocks) is that one is an immediate solution and the other is the senseless toil of a hopeless retard.Roger Lesboules wrote:

From what I've seen in minecraft so far, I am going to have to agree with uzique.
But video games do have the potential to be art. Same as with movies and photography, its still a bit too young to be called art yet, as its still only being used for entertainment (though the industry is focusing on making money rather than art so it might never happen)
But i do think yiu can do some amazing things in minecraft.
If that pic was made from scratch and wasnt a reproduction i would almost call it art. But the way it stands now, none of it is true art.

Not saying its true art like painting, but i think we can give it some recognition still!
i never said i didn't recognise the tenacity and patience required... but is it art? jogging a marathon takes a lot of time, effort, dedication and commitment. is it an artform? no. it's something you spend a shitload of time doing, sure enough, though.

You don't produce something physical for people to admire by jogging.
As always, terrible analogy.

everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously. ♥
So you didn't watch the video?
Nevermind. You're so blindingly stupid that it's becoming less funny and just boring, instead.

of course i watched the video. is that physical? since when is virtual reality a physical object? you're making representations of things with no symbolic value; it is entertainment, not art.

this thread was dumb even before the art debate.

trolling is an art.
I think you'll find that it is, infact, a art.

Mozart's or Bach's opus isn't a physical object either. (Apart from the original paper the notes were written on.)
Same goes for theater and opera.
i've now said about three times that the operative characteristic here is that items in minecraft cannot have any symbolic meaning - music, theater and opera are all intensely symbolic mediums. the stuff you make in minecraft is just reproduction and imitation.

in the theoretical situation that an artist would use minecraft as a medium to create art, would it be art?Uzique wrote:

Until someone puts some thought into the design of a non-plagiarized object.Uzique wrote:

no... what a ridiculous situation. an artist is an artist because he creates art; something is not art because it is created by the persona of a so-called artist. art begets artists, not the other way around.Trotskygrad wrote:

Do you also think it's impossible to create art in Photoshop? And are mosaics an invalid format for art?
