Didn't one of the commentators say that it was made before some tool was available?

They've gone beyond printers now.

Calculators, scrolling text displays, a TV, etc.

It's pretty crazy.

does redstone circuitry sometimes just stop working? i built a piston door for a skyscraper, tested it lots and it worked

so i encased it in obsidian, and retested and it still worked.

now it's stopped working and its covered in fucking obsidian

If you have a fast clock, the circuit will sometimes burn out. Other than that, I've sometimes had circuit connections go glitchy. Pull up the obsidian and take another look.

I know this is all over the minecraft forums so some of you may have seen this, but its definitely worth posting.  The Aether mod was released tthe other day and looks fantastic.  Read through it if you have a few minutes since they added a TON of material.  Also, check out the link to the forum page since they list all the items and new crafting recipies complete with pictures.

One of the biggest projects in Minecraft Modding history is now completed. Five very well-known and talented modders (Kingbdogz, Kodaichi, Shockah, Flan and 303) have joined forces to develop the Aether, a celestial realm found in outer limits of the atmosphere. The Aether is what you could call the "antipole" of the Nether. The Nether is a network of desolate, fiery caverns filled with bloodstained Cobblestone and sticky Soulsand; it lies beneath the very soil of our Minecraft world. The Aether, on the other hand, is a collection of floating plains and islands, all connected together to create a breathtaking dimension of the skies. Even during the night, the Aether is still quite peaceful, and a normal day in the Aether is the equivalent of three days on the surface.

The Aether isn't always fun and games though; elaborate dungeons are protected by powerful Guardians and sleeping sentries which await watchfully. They can be found in the sides of massive floating islands, containing locked loot chests with otherwise unobtainable singular items and blocks worth the effort of slaying their key bearing protectors.

Dungeons have three levels of difficulty. Bronze, Silver and Gold; Bronze being the easiest, and Gold being the hardest. This means that the Bronze Dungeon will be easier to handle, but the Dungeon will only yield "good" items. Silver Dungeons are slightly harder, and reward you with much better unique items. Gold Dungeons are extremely hard, but you will be rewarded with incredibly powerful items. These unique rewards CANNOT be obtained any other way.

Moas, peaceful and majestic giant birds, populate the Aether in three different colours: Blue, White and Black. Wild Moas cannot be tamed, but they do occasionally drop eggs of their respective colour. These eggs can be incubated with the Incubator block (using Ambrosium Torches). Once incubated, they can be fed with the Aechor Petals of Aechor Plants. They require 8 petals in total to grow, but are not always hungry and will occasionally refuse your offer (which can be done by right clicking them with the Aechor Petal). When grown, you have now completely tamed the Moa, and a saddle can be placed on their backs to ride. Blue Moas can perform 3 mid-air jumps, White Moas can perform 4 mid-air jumps, and Black Moas can perform 8 mid-air jumps.

Flying Pigs can also be found wandering around the Aether, and occasionally flying freely through the air. These creatures can be saddled with a Saddle, and flown around without having to deal with a taming process. This allows players to quickly hop into the action. However, Flying Pigs can only jump once, and do not have the privilege of mid-air jumps like the powerful flying Moas.

The Portal to the Aether is made out of a Glowstone Frame, and can be activated with a Bucket of Water!

I tried HD textures for awhile. It was just awkward building stuff that looked completely different than what someone using default textures would see.

Really, the only thing I was impressed by was the carving out of wide-open cave systems. This is something I wish Minecraft would do on its own when it generates worlds. Also, sand does not blend well at all with grass on that texture pack.
if u watch it they say they basically didnt use clone tools and did the majority by hand.

I really want to get Aether, but i feel like its still too buggy to be enjoyed properly and to give it the praise it truly deserves.
Already looks really cool though and i hope Notch will implement this in the actual game.

the thing with Mods and Notch is that the modding community isnt afraid to add big things. Lately it seems that Notch is a bit hesitant to do so. My guess is that its because if he would add something like the Aether to the game it would present itself with 100 extra features, but also with 50 extra bugs.
Now that he's in beta, i assume that he doesnt want the game to have that many bugs during at once in the game.

Think about this for a second. The last "big" thing he added was the nether (quite some time ago) and, lets face it, the nether didnt contain all that much. A few new block, couple of mobs and thats it.
It took him quite some time to implement it properly and to take out the few bugs in it. Something like the nether added maybe 20 new thing, but with only 5 new bugs.
If you keep added little things at a time you have less chance of getting a huge bug/glitch fest.

Now look at those mods like Aether and better than wolves. They add a ton of stuff and its really cool despite the bugs. You have a whole new world to explore and a stacks of new blocks, items and recipes (not a huge fan of better than wolves as it added mainly little useless shit that overcomplicated the game) and yes, there are a few bugs in them, but nobody seems to mind because its so large that it overshadows the bugs that it has.

When Notch adds like one shitty little thing like trap doors, you will instantly notice it when its bugged (which often is the case when one new item is added)

If you add a whole new world to the game that includes trap doors, no could care less when those trap doors are bugged.

Seems like Notch got a bit scared of taking big steps with this game because of the bug fixes it would require, even though all the little shit he adds always requires a bug fix or two afterwards as well.

Given enough time and people, I suppose it's doable. The place merely focuses on quantity rather than quality, I think.

Been exploring seeds named after characters from some of my favorite novels. Here's what you get for entering "secoh" (sans-quotes)

https://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/unnamednewbie13/seedsecoh.jpg
The entire landscape is like a cave system with its top chopped off. This actually wasn't where I started, but the location I did start at had me surrounded by creeper-spewing caves and cliffside alcoves. Good seed to start a small bridge-oriented base.

Recently doing a zombie survival run-through with the ZombieCraft Plugin.

It's damn good fun. Just 6 of us building a house as fast as we can and gathering weapons and armour.

I wish ZombieAttack worked (Zombies can break blocks to get to you). That would make it even more awesome.
