Slavs are historically Eastern European anyway. Slovene is a South Slavic language and Slovenes are considered South Slavic. It's not wild to list all the Former Yugo countries as Eastern or Central European. No need to get all offended..Sup wrote:

Anything ex-Yugoslavian is eastern to me, though

Not offended mek but history is one thing and present is another. We would never have lead the EU if we were considered an Eastern block country at least not so soon.Mekstizzle wrote:

You can still be a Eastern/Central European country, you can even be an ex-commie Eastern bloc country or even ex-USSR, that doesn't really mean anything when it comes to joining the EU. Loads of former Eastern bloc countries joined in 2004 not just Slovenia. Does that mean they're no longer considered to be Eastern or Central European?.Sup wrote:

Eastern/Western bloc is nothing anyway, that shit lasted less than a century. Southern/Western/Eastern Europe divisions have lasted much longer than that.

I didn't say you can't join the EU if you are from Eastern Europe. Ironic that Ted says my country is irrelevant as we have lead the EU they haven't right? We were on the Euro and World cup (football), we currently play basketball on the WC in Turkey,... where is Ireland? Don't wanna give more examples as I don't know if Ted is from Republic or Ireland or Northern Ireland but I have time the whole night to give arguments why my "little" country isn't irrelevant.Mekstizzle wrote:

Nothing special? How old are you? A country that leads the EU has to be stable in every possible way and the fact that we were given the priority to lead before all other bigger, more advanced countries is a big deal to us.Jenspm wrote:
The European Council presidency is just rotated between all members, having lead for six months is nothing special.
Since you mentioned Ireland, they're scheduled to lead in January 2013..
where did you find this information? Can you give me a link?

What priority are you talking about? Ever single EU country has either been in charge or is scheduled to be within the next 10 years - how does it make you more 'relevant'?

Do you think we would lead it now or in 10 years if we had corruption Bulgaria has for example?Jenspm wrote:

So lately I've been spamming people's inboxes with advertising and whatnot (my boss's idea, definitely not mine). Finally someone got fed up and I got a message saying the address has been signed up to receive promotional material, "please click this link to verify". /facepalm. Setting me up for spam mail doesn't work if I have to verify that I want it....
I'm not going to bother reading back in too much detail, but is Sup seriously trying to argue that Slovenia is a relevant international power?
I'm not going to bother reading back, but are we still caring about this?
