At the precise time that Hitler gave the order to switch from bombing tommy airfields and factories to terror bombing london, tommy had fewer than 100 serviceable fighters to defend with. Jerry leadership, being the tactical geniuses they were, allowed the RAF time to get their factories churning out more planes. They literally had the RAF by the balls, within days of defeat. They just assumed that they had stockpiles of fighters, confused by tommy's ability to utilize radar and vectoring what few fighters they had directly to the incoming bomber streams. Only a handful of fighters would take off from many different fields, and would join up over england, so it appeared that whole squadrons remained.
