Why does corporations having the right to free speech bother you so much?eleven bravo wrote:
I really dont believe you guys believe that multi billion dollar companies have the same rights of speech as individuals do. Its called a "distortion of the market place of ideas"
You do understand that corporations are limited in their campaign donations by the market? If people perceive that a corporation is donating heavily towards one party, what stops members of the other party from organizing a boycott? This is the danger of politicizing a corporation and companies know it full well. Unless they're sitting there with a monopoly it's in their best interest to remain neutral.
P.S. - Move out of cali before you end up like ATG with the conspiracy theories. I dunno what it is about that state but people come up with some crazy shit out there.

So we should do what? Go back to backroom deals? Having corporations promise consulting positions to congressmen when they leave office? Have them spread their money around in umbrella organizations?eleven bravo wrote:

So fucking naive to think this did anything other than make it more out in the open. Sorry your fantasy was destroyed

Yep, they do have a good system for it.JohnG@lt wrote:
Hold on to your seat Turquoise... ready? We need the Canadian system of campaign finance in this country if we are ever to cut down on the corruption. The Canadian government provides the funding for candidates election campaigns, not private or corporate donations. If a candidate receives (I think) 5% of the vote in an election cycle, he and his party receive government funding for their campaign in the next cycle that matches the other parties.
Pretty much... although it could also be said that it demonstrates that anyone can be bought.eleven bravo wrote:

We have the best democracy money can buy... literally.
I wonder if anyone tracked the personal donations of the media? I've heard that upwards of 90% of them donate to the Democratic party.
