Her car crashed into the pit in the 500 block of West Maple Street in north Lansing. She suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized. But police say alcohol may have been a factor.
"There was a belief that she could make it, not knowing there was a hole," said City of Lansing Police Sgt., Darin Southworth. "She's been checked out by fire personnel and she's doing OK."
The street is under heavy road construction, clearly marked with warning signs.
Police arrived at the scene and helped the woman out of the hole with a ladder.
"She just went straight in. She was walking down at the bottom of the hole basically trying to find a way to get out," said a nearby resident Brad Clark
