Oh, and I really like that you can see full webistes. With the touch/iPhone, you constantly get redirected to the crappy slow mobile sites.
"The 9.7-inch high-resolution screen makes iPad perfect for watching HD movies"
I'd say the fact that its not HD takes away from it being "perfect" for HD. Looks better than most laptops? I'll take playing 1080p on my laptop anyday.
Also, it can't play most 720p content. It only supports High Profile @ Level 3.1 in H.264, whereas most content is encoded at level 4.1. The majority of content would need to be transcoded, losing quality.

you can't keep saying this bertster... if they're pointless, how can they be of great use?Bertster7 wrote:
They certainly do have flaws. The biggest one being that they're pretty pointless. You can put them to great use though and I really don't think the display is one of its weak points.
we have one here we loan out. i tried it for a few minutes, and all i can say is meh. it gets boring. i agree they are pointless, and they are really of no use. and i hate when people say they can read books with them. you know what else you can read a book with? a book!

lol, no. the fitting comparison for an ipad is to compare it to a netbook/notebook/whatever... a small 'handheld computing device'.

"Pretty pointless" is what I said. You can use them in good ways, but few people do.steelie34 wrote:

There are lots of good things you can do with them. eReaders are very popular, the iPad is the only colour one I am aware of and certainly the only one that can incorporate video/animation into eBook content. They are also good as multi function remote type devices.
But in general, they are just silly toys.
silly toys... agreed. it will be interesting to see what kind of competition it will get from other manufacturers. i'm sure M$ has one in the works. it'll probably be a great multi-tasking device and will blue screen 1/2 the time you use it.Bertster7 wrote:

Like someone said earlier, all you guys calling them silly toys, useless/pointless, do you own an iPad? Or are you just basing your senseless opinion off of a website, a couple reviews, and a 5 minute session with it at a store?

I've probably used them more than you have, and I dont even own one myselfWinston_Churchill wrote:
I've used uhh... 7 now.
Honestly I do kind of want to use one. But they'll kick me out of the Apple store if I try, and my friends don't want me rubbing my dick on theirs either
I've used one. And they're fun, but utterly, utterly pointless. If I was the OP I'd buy it, play AngryBirds for 48 hours straight, then sell it at a profit.Ryan wrote:

we have one we loan out to staff and faculty. i took it home for a weekend, but honestly used it for all of 5 minutes. i literally got bored with it that fast. it doesn't do any one thing well... it's just a collection of mediocre apps on an overpriced platform. it's a waste of money, and will be obsolete in a few months. ffs look at the hardware specs. how can you justify paying that much for a processor that is slower than the one in their phone? just buy an iphone, it can do all the same shit, AND make phone calls. pick up a book if you want to read a book, and if you just want to hang out in a coffee house and surf the web, well, then you have bigger problems to fix.Ryan wrote:

It seems you all just play with it, but don't actually own one. Hmmph.
My friend owns one, I've spent a fair few hours playing with it so I think I know what I'm talking about. What's your point? I don't own one because I'd rather spent my spare cash on less pointless items, and after playing with one I'm glad I didn't get one.
My point is that people accuse it of being pointless when they have only used it for a couple minutes in a store or read reviews online. I'm not accusing you or anyone else that has had "hours" of time on it, I'm just frustrated that people base their arguments off of hardly anything at all.ghettoperson wrote:

That's like saying such-and-such a car is a piece of crap because it's a Chevy or a Ford, etc. when they haven't even driven/owned one. People just hop on the bandwagon and enjoy the ride.
But let it be known, I'm not trying to argue with anyone here. I like my iPad and if other people hate it, then so be it.
That's what test-drives are for. You take it out for a spin only to realize that you don't like it. Are you going to bitch at me because I test drove a random Ford car and now I hold the opinion that I don't like said random Ford car, but my opinion is invalid because I don't own it? You're not making any sense, Ryan.
Noooooooooo omfg you guys are dumb sometimes.mtb0minime wrote:

I can't explain it. I'm saying that I can't handle people who diss a product because everyone else is doing it.
"Oh I hate Apple because their shit is useless and blah blah blah". People that say that just because they find it's cool to be a part of the Apple-Hater group. Then when questioned about why they said what they did, they hardly have anything to back themselves up with.
I'm not accusing anyone in this thread, it's just in general, people like that piss me off.
Ok, but you still seem to be annoyed by the people who have tried it and still don't like it.
Only the ones who have tried it for 5-10 minutes at a store and didn't have a chance to try many of it's features.mtb0minime wrote:

Even if it only took them 5-10 minutes to realize they didn't like it or that it wasn't the right product for them?Ryan wrote:

The people that disregard the product altogether because all their friends are Apple-haters. I think that is stupid.
But enough debate, this thread is about whether he should get it because it's 40% off.

No, he should not get it, even at a discount. Still doesn't seem worth it at a price of 500 Euros or whatever.
Spoiler (highlight to read):
I've formed my opinion based on a hatred for Apple. Debate resume.

By the time you wait for the price to drop, the hype has died and a newer generation will be out that has more than the last and will cost the original price again.
That's what I hate about technology >_>
