TOW's can take down heli's, they're not just for commanders to sit in.
With AA the way it is now, Wild Weasels would be an interesting addition to the game...
hey...I play medic a lot and my team has won rounds because of my ability to revive well and keep tickets on our side...
I mean..come on...that IS what the entire point of this game is right??? to WIN????
I was playing last night as USMC on Karkand and in nearly every round I've revived more people than we had tickets left...so in essence I won the game for my team
it's a good feeling...

Funny thing is that I never depended on air support to take down armor. AT, C4, and TOW's works wonders. Bombers will just have to learn to attack properly, via TV missiles. Fighters will stick to dogfights. Spec Ops will finally spend more time blowing up assets and hard targets rather than ground pounders. Snipers wil now be critical to winning the game. Pure teamwork, instead of a single pilot getting the Gold all the time.
A few comments:
AT is now slowly becoming the new noobtube, nobody uses it for armor anymore.
C4 is found useless to people now because they can't throw it like a grenade.
TOWs? Oh yeah, that seat made for commanders... or was it made for sniping infantry.
Bombers and TV missles? is this new?
Dogfights? wtf. no such thing anymore.
Teamwork will definitely win golds. knife, revive, knife revive, knife revive.... pistol, revive, pistol, revive, pistol revive... That's probably the most teamwork I see in BF2. Props, stat padders.
Now, speaking from my own experience. I'm not a good pilot, but in the time I've flown, I've only been shot down by AA by friendly fire. Afterburner and a sharp turn is all it takes to lose AA on the previous patch.
Regarding AT as a sniping tool, it takes skill to do that. Splash damage is very minimal, and as such you can only really kill those who insist on staying prone. Dodge and jump and the AT will miss you. Albiet a few times I've been killed by AT missiles while frozen in amazement like a doe to incoming headlights. AT bunnyhoppers should go away.
C4 shouldn't be thrown like grenades. C4 traps still works wonders against fast moving vehicles.
TOW are defensive weapons. Watch the mini-map and listen for the vehicles. Once again, great for taking out fast moving vehicles.
Bombers and TV Missiles. Nope, not new. But now, you've got to wait for a gunner and fly high, like what bombers are meant to do.
But you are true regarding the medic/support point whores. Look at my medic stats, I rarely play it.
New member, and apologies for the long post (wait, no I'm not...)... it has some valid points:
After reading through these pages, I have concluded that there are two clashing stereotypes present – neither are willing to give ground to even ‘try’ to understand where the others are coming from. On one hand, we have people that love infantry fighting: they capture the bases, fight tanks, defend flags, revive others, lay cover fire, etc. It is what they are ‘skilled’ at, and enjoy doing. On the other hand, we have those players that have moved to a different aspect of the game: air. They find enjoyment in the freedom of the air, the thrill of a dogfight, helping out the ground troops, and yes, bombing a carrier where ground soldiers are waiting for aircraft.
Let’s face it, the extremes of the two spectrum think that their methods are the better, more effective ways of winning the match. But let me tell you, as a player that has played nearly half his time on the ground and in the air: you need both sides to win. In pre-1.2 it always seemed that it was the team that had both air power and ground power that won – they worked in tandem with each other. Teamwork is what this game is about.
Now to address the issues with the previous in mind. Calling each other n00bs and whatever-whatnot is really pointless, and just proves the stereotypes. People excel in different areas of the game, and when they get owned by air (pre-1.2), it hurts their ego, and they demand something be done so it does not seem so lopsided. Now, the roles seem to be reversed: we have skilled pilots that are getting [going to] get owned by AA. It hurts their ego, and will demand something be done. In both cases, we have whiners – what distinguished them before as to now, is that the roles are reversed. Those that are getting killed more often have something to complain about.
But are both sides justified? In a way, yes. In a way, no. First, we all bought this game to have some fun. And for most people, fun is doing well and excelling at the game. But when we have two clashing methods of gameplay, it is our right as a consumer to complain to get it fixed. Only problem is, to fix it, it hurts the other side of the spectrum. So, they’re not justified for the exact reason previously stated: it hurts the other method of gameplay. As a consumer that bought the game, you are entitled to have your fun and enjoy it, so why should it be nerfed? [You can interchange those sides for pre-1.2 or 1.2, ie, infantry vs. airpower.]
Main point? Whether or not we like it, BF2 has two completely opposite styles of gameplay mashed together, and they [EA, DICE] expect the extremes to get along. Not going to happen. EA cannot fix these problems of the AA and Stingers by a complete role reversal, going from underpowered to “omfg AA”. A sweet spot, or as close as possible needs to be hit, and right now, I really don’t think we found it with 1.2; the result is that infantry are ecstatic and air fighters are… not ecstatic. This patch really just reversed the whiners’ roles. So in the end, what was gained on one side of the spectrum was lost on the other.
Some of you tell them to “adapt” to the new style. I disagree – they adapted at the beginning of the game, and have found their niche. I really do believe the AA needed improvement, but not this much. We are no better off now than before… What needs to happen is people need to respect (oh my gosh, the thought of it) the ways others find their fun and niche in this game, instead of crying about it. Be objective, and realize that this game does not revolve around you, whether you’re an infantryman or a dogfighter.

thats why special forces was released. it was more infantry based. why didnt you whiners just leave to special forces? fuck.Locke wrote:

Looks like he kept the target in his target reticle the whole time he was shooting. If I can do that you should get hit.
-iLL* looking at your stats I can see why you might be worried about the new v1.20 patch release. Once all the BF2 servers are patched and AA can be used as an adequate defense against your air attacks, you will have to start bailing out to save your hide or die in fiery blaze of enemy AA.
LOL! I love it. Finally a little payback for all my deaths from above.
If you look at -iLL* stats... out of 223 hours he has played, 142 hours in choppers or planes. That is 64% of his playing time in the air. He loves the sky obviously. His chopper k/d is an unimpressive 3.78 (I have seen much higher) but his jet k/d is a very high 11.05. Then look at his infantry weapon stats. All his infantry weapon k/d ratios are abysmal. .09 k/d with pistols, .12 with sniper rifles, oh wait .63 with spec ops carbines, so I guess he doesn't just chuck C4 he dies while doing it too. He can't fight unless he's in a jet or a chopper! He is ineffective. I wouldn't want him on my team, no wonder he is pissed.
I feel sorry for him. Because from now on. After he pulls the parachute cord to bail out of his dead jet/chopper he doesn't stand a chance on the ground. Where 95% of the legit BF2 action occurs, ie. firefights, heals, re-supplies, tactical explosions, repairs, flag caps/defends etc. This is where the games are won or lost.
One more thing to look at. His team kills... 508!!! Wonder how many of those TKs were friendlies shot in the back for trying to do what he says we should, fly and "pwn" other jets/choppers?
I can't wait to get into a server and "hunt" his butt down Cheney style.
See you all on the battlefield.

Air to air, yes it's easy.
air to ground, impossible if there is an AA emplacement nearby.
Locke, props. You're on the same track I am, except you have a nicer way of putting it. Except for the fact, they actually made AA more powerful than Jets were in 1.12.
Like I said, Infantry was not nerfed for the passed 6 months. there are maps without jets. now jets are nearly completely nerfed, there are no maps with jets that have a lack of AA.

oh and those tks, most are from accidently killing teammates when trying to help them. they spot a tank or something else and call for help, i try to destroy it but sometimes they dumbly get in the way of fire and i end up tking them by mistake. and what pisses me off, i get punished for trying to help they're helpless asses out. and you obviously only play on foot which is why you have no idea why the game is already balanced but lacks skills from other players(like you) to stop the skilled ones.
Take note that he's spent 183 hours in BF2 and almost 2 and a half hours of those were in the sky.
Especialy on the Carrier... 2 essex guns, (6?) missles on each.
no its 8 missiles(anit better but the truth)

exactly. he hasnt taken the time to atleast try to gain some skill in the air to stop players like me who enjoy both aspects of the game.
