So, if you are an American and the cops catch you inside Mexico chances are good, if you are not beheaded, you will be stopped, drugs will be planted and you will rot in a Mexican jail.

All in an effort to blame mexicos drug violence on it's Northern neighbor.

In a brief interview in his office, Dr. Tabares said there were "various bruises" on Mr. Huckabee's body that "could have been caused the previous day." He declined to speculate on the cause of the injuries. In a statement to the court, on Feb. 3, Dr. Tabares said the bruising had been "caused by a blunt instrument or object."

The military said in its statement to the Journal that it didn't know of Dr. Tabares's exam and had no comment on it.

In the Mexican judicial system, testimony isn't given in an open courtroom before a jury, but in office cubicles in front of lawyers. Typically, neither the judge nor the defendant is present. The judge rules based on the transcript and case file.
It amazes me how often I am shocked  by how shitty of a country they are to be cursed with living next to.

Interesting that this is getting press because this kind of stuff I've been hearing about for years.  It was common when I was in collee to pay-off the police for "infractions".

You're probably not surprised why illegals want to come here now.

Given the amount of Americans that go to Cabo, it seems like it's not a very common problem. And if you do get arrested for breaking the law, a hundred dollars or so will buy you out.

I think you're crazy if you're a US citizen and you go to Mexico. Nothing in Mexico is worth the risk.

I've ceased being amazed by how shitty Mexico is.  It only amazes me when people defend them.

Under the 2007 Merida Initiative, the U.S. agreed to provide Mexico with $1.3 billion to fight drug traffickers, including more than $420 million for the Mexican military. U.S. lawmakers have threatened to withhold 15%—nearly $200 million—if there are human-rights violations or other problems.
It would be safer for US citizens and cost a whole lot less to secure the border and handle the problems that do get through. Why our government would send any money to a country that is so obviously corrupt, dangerous and out of control is unbelievable.

Anyone consider that perhaps that money we're sending down there is actually getting into the wrong hands?

Are we seeing the Columbianization of Mexico?

What I mean by Columbianization of Mexico is that we're seeing the following occur in the country:
  • Violent attacks (very close to our border too...)
  • Corruption at all levels
  • Threatened (or killed) Politicians
  • A repressed and controlled Press
  • And most important that the Police/Military are taking sides

See once the Police or Military take a side in the fight then the country is Columbianized.

And I am NOT advocating that we annex Mexico making it the 51st through 75th states to fix the problem.

Just like the people who get drugs planted on them whilst traveling through Asia. I've read a few books about some incidents.

I've always wanted to go to Asia on vacation someday, I thought the Philippines might be nice but I don't know how nasty that place is when it comes to corruption.

Mexico has always been fucked up and I don't see why this is surprising. I'm for sending the military down their to free him though. I wish the U.S. didn't give a shit, it would be funny if Mexico even tried to invade the U.S. to retaliate.

From people I know who have been there, if you are in the large tourist area's your fairly safe (they don't want to ruin all the tourism $$$)  but get away from the resorts and your on your own.

Having to pay the cops off, for something you didn't even do, I'm sure happens more than you think. I know a couple people it's happened to and it was expensive.

Yeah, that probably is the case. But why you'd want to go anywhere other than the touristy areas is beyond me.

Dad is going Mexico in November for his 50th, and he's far too cheap to bribe anyone.

My dad's been a few times, and he's never had to bribe anyone. Although I don't think he'd know how to. My parents can be hopelessly naive sometimes.

Honestly as a U.S. Citizen and how crazy our laws are, I wouldn't go to a Third world country and expect anything different.

Actually watching Entounge this season I think turtle is going to get kidnapped in Mexico.
