You can tell that DICE is trying to listen to both sides of the spectrum to make BF3. The hardcore BF fans wanted longevity and hard to get rewards, and the new crowd likely sparklies every few seconds.
So they put in 145 ranks, so to get to the last rank will take ages, but you still rank up frequently enough to not lose interest. They put in medals that will be challenging, and ribbons that won't be.
Good compromises.
Also i am disappointed with the lazer missiles on jets, not enough damage, but then again, more people need to use the soflam.
