Don't know until you try...
Only on a swan.
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something. - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.
I figure only the worst of the worst would end up down the sight of my rifle, so I guess I'd have a pretty clear conscience about it.

Yeah but like, what if it was someone truly innocent like OJ Simpson? I guess a few innocents might slip by, but for the most part they'd all be guilty and deserving.
And killing innocents is acceptable, so long as we do get more guilty dead than innocent.mtb0minime wrote:

"if the glove don't fit, you must acquit"
one of my early prerequisites was Philosophy, and the instructor asked who was for/against the death penalty. he was trolling . . .
a girl near the back of the room raised her hand and said"How are we supposed to know?"
the instructor stopped, turned to her, and replied "You can only know if you're willing to pull the trigger . . ."
for myself, you could hand me all six rifles, and let the other five be witnesses. that way, i'd know where the blanks were.

"Set your selector switch from SAFE to SEMI to FUCKIT... and ... watch.. your ... lane!"
Now after executing said person you find out that the prosecution, coroner, police, and/or witnesses made a mistake and the WRONG PERSON is wearing orange, how the fuck would you handle that?
I have no problem defending my home and family as lowing mentioned but that is a very far cry from executing someone. I think I could kill if needed but I would never kill as part of capital punishment. The cost of executing the wrong person is just too fucking high.

The US economy is a giant Ponzi scheme. And 'to big to fail' is code speak for 'niahnahniahniahnah 99 percenters'
If I found out a person I executed was later presumed to be innocent, it would definitely bother me that the justice system fucked up, however, it would not bother me that I was the one who pulled the trigger. Someone else would've taken my place if I didn't. And I'm not the one deciding "justice", I'm delivering it, I'm just the messenger.
I dunno, maybe I'm more of a sheep because of the "It's my job, I'm just following orders" mentality.

Yes, unless I had a serious suspicion that the guy is actually innocent.pace51 wrote:

Could you do this, even if two blanks are in the rifles? Would you think you're carrying out justice, or just an order? Or might you back away?
Yeah. Easily. Not only is it an order from a superior, this guy commited some sort of a heinous crime. If he didn't, he'd still be appealing it and trying to beat it.
To be frank, I really wouldn't have much of a problem shooting anyone. Except women and children.

Now, an execution is not in cold blood. There is a difference between killing an innocent person for whatever reason, and executing the person that did it. It is not the same thing.pace51 wrote:

For a cash reward. Are they getting paid or are they volunteers?
If I was offered like 5 grand to legally execute someone then there's a very high chance I'd do it.

Only if they were really old.
Or maybe a bum or drug addict.
Oh and female with a lot of kids.
And white. I hate whitey.
So if it was a homeless white mother of seven who was over 70 whoring it up for drugs....then yeah. A public service in reality.
No, still couldn't do it. I love my streetwalking drug whoring Mom.
If I had a choice I couldn't do an execution, but wouldn't have a problem with if I didn't have a choice.

Heh, it must suck for those who got executed and they were proven innocent couple years later.Fynnegin wrote:

OT, yes and no.

I suppose if I need an executioner to do my bidding so I don't carry the guilt of executing someone, I can just summon one of you here, since you are so all capable of execution...
My answer would be no.

who says i'd do your bidding? the conditions the OP set were - you were already in line, waiting for the condemned to be brought forward.Phrozenbot wrote:

it presupposed the legal process had run it's course.
Throw me 10k and id even clean up.
I'm sure I remember hearing somewhere that most people in firing squads have been found to deliberately miss the person they are meant to be executing (I think it was in WWI or II that they did a study on it after it took several volleys for someone being executed to get hit).pace51 wrote:

That would be seriously weird for the dude who was getting executed.
