Missouri man's incendiary sign on U.S. 71 draws fire

David Jungerman farms 6,800 acres of river bottom land in western Missouri.

He’s not the kind of guy who posts on Twitter or has a Facebook profile.

So when the 72-year-old Raytown man wanted to speak out politically, he used what he had handy: a 45-foot-long, semi-truck box trailer.

Are you a Producer or Parasite

Democrats - Party of the Parasites

He planted the trailer with its professionally painted message in his Bates County cornfield along heavily traveled U.S. 71 about an hour south of Kansas City. He wanted lots of people to see it.

They did. Including at least one with a good case of outrage, matches and a can of gas.

On May 12, Jungerman’s trailer was torched. The Rich Hill volunteer fire department responded. A week later, it was set afire again. The firefighters put it out again.

Then flames erupted in an empty farm house that Jungerman owns.

“They don’t like free speech,” said Jungerman. He put out a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Ok find you don't like the sign so you go and torch it?  Free speech is not just speech that you agree with its also speech that you don't disagree with.  Barring yelling "fire" in a crowded theater your opinions are allowed to be spoken.  It doesn't mean you'll have an audience, but you have the right to say it.

I've seen cars with political stickers (mostly Republican) on them keyed. This is nothing new, but it is on a larger than usual scale.

That's because people who have bumper stickers are douchebags. Regardless of political persuasion. I don't fucking give a shit that you think George Bush did 9/11, or that Obama and Osama are the same person. Go eat a dick, asshole.

Wait, let me get this right, because I'm not quite sure I'm reading correctly. You approve of people keying cars for displaying messages they don't agree with? On another note, what crawled up your ass and died, or was that last bit like shaking your fist at the sky? Third, what the hell do you care about US R/D politics?

I was expressing my hatred for bumper stickers and the people that use them, I didn't say anything about whether I approved or disapproved of keying their cars. I thought it was quite clear from the way I phrased it, but yes the insult at the end was aimed at people with bumper stickers, not you. As for the last bit, why shouldn't I? Of course, you could ask that question of any European on here.

yay, more non-news schlock from the drudge report.

If I put some republican bashing sticker on my car, I'd get my window smashed in.  welcome to the real world.

To be honest, if a sticker on someones bumper makes you RAGE, then you have some real issues you need to get worked out.

I agree. However that isn't the case with me.

EDIT: Having said that, MaccyB, you strike me as the kind of guy that has bumper stickers. Mostly to make you stand out as an upstanding conservative amongst a crowd of lazy liberal students.

How is it you wrote the same word 14 times, yet used two different spellings?

Apparently he feels that it's important for at least half of every page of D&ST to consist of threads formed from articles and opinion pieces from conservative news aggregators. It's getting pretty annoying.

Seriously, of the 28 non-sticky threads on the first page, 12 are by Harmor, and they're all reposts from Drudge Report and the likes.

This.

Although I will agree that anyone who is angered enough by a sign to burn it down has some pretty serious issues.  I hope they catch the arsonist(s).

This. I'm getting really sick of it.

Stellar concept there, ATG. Fighting an abundance of low-quality threads by trawling around to find subjects for an abundance of low-quality threads of our own to post. That'll solve the problem.

The solution is easy. Shut yer yap.

How is simply reposting links from your favourite news site contributing? It's just annoying IMO, if I wanted to read Fox News/Drudgereport I would fucking go there myself.

TBH I don't know why anyone would feel a great enough need to hire a professional to write a political phrase on a trailer. If you vote Republican then vote and stfu, nobodys opinion is going to change when they drive past your shitty trailer and read it.

That's not what he did. He posted a link, copied content from said link, then posed the question about free speech. All in line with what D&ST is about. Now, the fact that we've had gobs of threads about the topic is questionable, but what you are flaming him about is not what, in fact, happened.
