TL;DR - A 14 year old boy saw a 3 year old girl lost in a clothing store. He took her around the store trying to find her mother, then waited at the front entrance for the girl's mother to show up. Meanwhile the mother's freaking out, and at some point the boy gets arrested for "child abduction." Yes, his reward for taking care of a little kd whose mother had lost her is a charge of kidnapping.

Moral of the story: don't try to help anybody, you're just gonna get fucked over in the process.

" Edwin is quite the kidnapper. He brings his mom along. He hangs out in front of the store until the victim's mother shows up. And then he returns to the store and starts shopping for shoes. "

Charges are bogus and the situation was handled incorrectly by the police.

I have to say though...my stomach dropped to see just how easy it was to get that little girl to follow him out the door. He didn't even grab her hand.  I can understand why the mom had the police called, as that is a very scary thing...and I see that she hasn't pressed charges, so it was a reactionary move.

Shopping is more important then children, durrr.. If I had to return something that cost 100 dollars, that is way more important then taking care of my 3 year old.

It happens all the time...have you ever been around a 3 yr old?...They wander and if you take your eyes off of them for even a second they can be halfway across the store...don't be so judgmental.  I used to hide in the circular clothes racks when I was that young...

from seeing the vid ..... its hard to call this one fair for the 14 year old

theres no time counter on the screen so we don't know the time lapse from when he made contact with the 3yd too when he went outside but if it was very quick ( as in, he made contact then went straight for the door ) then I'd have to side with the police

If this was all for good intentions then why didn't flag down a worker or go to a cash register or office to page the mother

Forget that.  I've never lost my kid whilst shopping.
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.  - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.

Well, aren't you all the perfect parents...

I haven't lost track of my kid either, but I definitely don't judge a mom that lost sight of her 3 yr old for what? 30 seconds?

But I do feel bad for the 14 yr old.  You can clearly see that he looks back and forth from the girl to the women that just walked out the front door, thinking they were walking away from her.  This would be why he took her directly to the front.

I never claimed to be the perfect parent.  I just haven't ever lost my kid.  I will judge a parent for losing track of their child all be it for any amount of time.  It shouldn't happen and parents need to be more responsible when taking their children out in public.  Don't even get me started on restaurants....

I don't disagree that parents need to be responsible...I just know the reality is that it can happen...even to the best and most attentive of parents.
I just try to not say bad things about the small mistakes other parents make because I have seen that kind of attitude bite people in the ass.

Have the 14 year old's parents counter-sue for "emotional distress". It's the American Way.

Yeah, your dad was watching you the whole time, while mom did the shopping.  That's the way it goes with us too.  But if only one parent is around, baby in stroller/cart, period.  There is just no way to watch a three year old unleashed and still shop.  Not even a second, and they are gone from sight.

He's 14, maybe he didn't really know. Like, I knew what to do in a similar situation by age 8, due to protective parents, but...
