So, having a computer system in place to do a pilots job will make the costs "tumble", yet you would still need a pilot on board? So it will only negate the need for flight attendants. Because that is who makes all the money.11 Bravo wrote:

Fair point. Does it not cost more to fly now than then? Did the cost of tickets "tumble" when the 3rd person was removed?
i doubt ticket prices tumbled but the shareholders were happier. that being said, in the current economic climate, this should be something to look at.nlsme1 wrote:

Okay, so what would be differant now that would make the prices "tumble" as you claimed. And again, the cost of "pilots" is relatively small. Too small to effect share prices.
Do you guys all honestly think the cost of flying will drop at all if they automate piloting...?
a) The planes that are automated will PROBABLY be the ones that will be advertised as gimmick (a la Boeing Dreamliner) making them even more expensive.
and
b) The airlines are already getting poor and gouging money everywhere, even if they do save money by getting rid of pilots, they will probably just absorb the profit, then raise ticket prices even more because of some other new bullshit expense.

Well you still need the women on board for the drinks and stuff. More or less depending on the size of the plane, and it would work out great if one of them knew how to operate the aircraft in case of an emergency.
So basically all you have left is the stewardesses who serve you, and one of them knows how to fly.

I just have to laugh at us debating this decision from the FAA, since we're just amateurs and the FAA isn't going to take any big risks, so obviously they've thought it out 10x more than we have.
