there are many differences in these genres...the whole build of a track is different
also trance and house have MANY subgenres
i like them all but my favourite are definately vocal trance and uplifting trance

lol no, just clubs that don't play shit music.

no indication in my post whatsoever that i go to clubs, let alone the 'right' ones.

but that many millions of teenage club-goers can't all be wrong.

well it doesn't sound all the same now, does it, you're just being obtuse

what you mean to say is "i don't like what i hear at first so i am lumping a vast range of music under one sound because i can't be bothered to think about or listen anymore". it still doesn't all 'sound the same'. you're either just dumb, ignorant, lazy, or all of those combined.

all shouting is death metal

thats website just confused the fuck out of me.  sure it told me the time period of when everything came, but when you play a dance/house/techno/trance song all right next to each other, how would someone decide, first ones dance, second was house, three techno, and fourth was trance.

i dont see the specific characteristics each one has.

It means you weren't paying close enough attention. Read his info about the characteristics of a genre, then play a sample and listen for that.

Besides, if you don't get it the first time through, it's not a big deal. It takes practice and a lot of listening time with an attentive ear.

In general:

Dance isn't really a genre.

House can vary from 120-135 bpm, usually pretty light sounding, friendly. Think hip downtown club.

Techno is faster, 135-150 bpm, more mechanical, built on loops.

Trance is also 140-150 bpm, very hypnotic, very evolving, trance inducing (duh).

These are very broad descriptions and not all songs fit into them. House tends to have more complex beats, the drums almost breathe up and down. Techno and trance are more 4x4 kick-hihat-clap/snare-hihat repeat.
