no, you get a conditional offer saying "you can come to us, if you get an average grade of 'x'" (this was a month or so ago, they've only seen half my grades and a personal statement)

problem is, 'x' just inflated massively for Norwegian students in the top schools this year, no idea why.

actually, all the uni's I spoke to stressed the fact that these requirements are hardly solid and subject to change from year to year..

oooh, we've talked past each other here.

I visited the universities last August, and was told the requirements for Norwegian students from last year (2009). I then applied on the background of this, seeing as I had grades that were good enough for all of the mentioned in 2009, assuming it wouldn't change that much in 2010. However, all but one of the universities had a massive spike in the requirements this year compared to 2009.

So, the conditional offers I got required a much higher average than the same schools required last year.

I've watched Harry Brown, thought it was quite good. But that female officer's acting was the only thing that I didn't like.

And I agree, Brit cinema is far greater than Hollywood these days. Same with comedy and tv in general. Thank god we get plenty of Brit tv here in Aus.

you didnt know the ground-deal in coming to competitive uk unis?

well, I expected ups and downs (well, mostly ups) on the grades, but nothing close to this. To put it into perspective, we have 24 grades in Norway that count towards university applications. Someone who was accepted at St.Andrews last year with the minimum requirement of 5.0, would need to improve 12 of his 24 subjects with a whole grade to be accepted this year.

I may have been naïve in thinking it would be more stable than this, but I really didn't see that coming..

@Aries: apart from Queen Marry, they're all quite competitive tbh.
