I love the way the Windows 7 taskbar is, with the small icons. I like the way they group, very convenient for when you have lots of stuff open.

However, there are times when the grouping just isn't practical. Is there a way to ungroup specific programs? For example, when using X-Fire if I have more than 1 chat window open I have to hover over the group, then select the chat and I'm pretty lazy tbh.

Yes I know you can ungroup all of them, but that's not what I want. I want the rest so stay little icons and grouped, with only the ones I choose to be ungrouped.

Possible...yes? no?

I don't think that's doable just through Windows settings.

I'm open to "not just through Windows settings" as well.

It was just a liability safeguard, I didn't want to say "Oh that's completely impossible" and then have someone come in and say "Oh no, you can do this with this program". I don't know how, but I wouldn't doubt it's completely impossible.

Hey man I think it can be done with this program -- http://rammichael.com/?proj=29

There's a poster on this forum who reckons it works -- http://www.sevenforums.com/customizatio … grams.html

If you have a second monitor you can do it with DisplayFusion but otherwise, no idea.

Doesn't seem to work for me. Or maybe I just can't figure it out...

I'll give it a shot when I get home from work in about 6 or so hours and if I have time as I'm pretty busy today.

Well, it works, but a little fiddly perhaps.

What you need to do is run the program, have the window open (may need to click the icon in the system tray) then select "Don't Group" under the grouping section. Click apply. Now when you open a new window, file and/or instance of a program it will not be grouped with other instances already running in your taskbar. To change back simply change the option back to "group by application ID (default)" and click apply. Icons in the task bar will now be grouped when new instances are opened, however the existing ones already there will still remain independent and can't be grouped unless closed and reopened.

Hope that makes sense.

Well that's a very annoying solution.... lol.

Thanks for taking the time to figure it out, but I guess I'll just wait for a better solution. C'mon Microsoft, make it happen.

I guess the best way to do it is to have "don't group", open all the windows you want to be separate, then switch back to "group by applciation id" and use it from there. But yeah, depending on how you're working with different groups this may not be a fix.

That takes longer than just waiting a second to click the right window lol.
