I read the second article on enviromentalism.

I think the writer is an asshat with no understanding of how the industries he talks about works.

He says that people should use paper wastefully if they want more forests. Thing is, the reason why environmentalists recycle is so mature trees are not cut down, and it takes around 10-12 years for a tree planted to grow up. Although logging companies have to plant trees that they cut down, this is only because of laws that they say they have to do so, and the author would probably be against said laws anyways...

Also, he states that people should be willing to pay for species they care about... Thing is, anyone with a basic understanding of high school biology knows that species are interdependent, and by driving the squirrels to extinction (hypothetical situation here), through cost-cutting measures, results that you might have to pay more to save species that you care about.

I found it amusing. In his ardent zeal in trying to debunk environmentalism he makes some fairly hilarious logical leaps and statements out of nowhere. Not to mention he ends up being an ideologue himself.

The "GO economics tag team" line is pretty funny too.

Al gore amazes me. He can go from talking about his son's car accident to global warming in one sentence.

What about the people talking about Al Gore, his son and global warming in one sentence.

Al Gore makes logical leaps, but climate change is real and it is a problem.

Recycling is also a sham.  The only material really worth recycling is aluminum cans and cell phones.  Screw recycling paper, glasss and plastic.  And Screw the people that tell me I have to recycle.

It might be sham where you live, doesn't mean it's not worth doing but the system for it is fucked up. To say it's not worth recycling plastic is the mother of all moronic statements. You know how much plastic there is that takes a few hundred/thousand years to degrade right?

Al gores family is completely green. Al gore senior does his part by driving a prius and making speeches!

Al gore jr does his part by only utilising 100% environmentally natural marijuana.

What Al Gore has to do with climate change "debate"?

DBBrinson1 wrote:

And when those landfills are full we can always dump the rest of our plastic in one of our many oceans! Few birds, and maybe a fish here and there, can die because they eat our plastic waste. It's not really our problem, they should know better what they eat. It's quite obvious that plankton size plastic which happens to look like plankton does not sustain same nutrients as plankton, everyone knows this. People like to eat plastic contaminated fish. It's quite nasty to see more and more people with genetic distorters because they were fed poison when they were in their mothers womb, though that's not my problem. In the future it will be even less of a problem for me because I'm not here to suffer of problems I might have caused for future generations.

Yeah, that plastic never gets in our body through the food chain. That might be a problem tomorrow -- but I live today.

I think the author is a hack and probably either paid to believe in the nonsense he writes or is just a victim of ideology.

I've ceased being amazed by what conclusions people can come to through twisted logic.  I mean...  when you consider that most believe in some sort of invisible higher power that they have no evidence for, then it really doesn't seem like such a stretch to assume that global warming is some worldwide conspiracy or that the world is 6,000 years old rather than billions of years old.  When one illogical belief is allowed to fester, others usually follow.

And where traditional religion is lacking, there are still other dogmas to believe in -- like the infallibility of capitalism that some entertain, or it's opposite, the infallibility of government.

How this relates to environmentalism is where deception has become an art form.  On the one hand, you have opportunists pushing for cap and trade, and on the other hand, you have negligent capitalists that act as if there's nothing to worry about from pollution or depleting natural resources.  The latter group has bought into the illusion so deeply that many of them even believe that global warming is a good thing.

I'm guessing they don't own any coastal property.

Nevertheless, some idiots will continue to push for offshore drilling despite the obvious risks, while other idiots will continue to fear nuclear technology despite the vast advances we've made over the last 30 years.
