Wow, I never knew you had to state your political persuasion when you donate to charity!

Not nearly as much as conservatives (fact).  I'd guess it is because it is hard to donate money when you're tied up to a tree, or out throwing red paint on people wearing fur, maybe trying to arrest Karl Rove or perhaps they are asea on the 'steve irwin' saving whales.
prove it.

and when you talk about trees and fur and whatever a) you sound like a bit of an idiot, and b) are you implying that no 'conservatives' care about the environment?

labelling is soooooo easy isn't it?

A) That's funny seeing as I only mock the behavours of those kook eco-bitches.   I'm not the one tossing red paint about whilst preparing to live in a tree for a year.

B) DU member here.

That link doesn't in the slightest prove your 'fact' as far as I can tell. Unless somehow you assume all rich and poor people are conservatives and the middle-classes are all liberal. A truly staggering judgement worthy of lowing.

What makes you sound a bit silly is that you assume a) the only 'eco-bitches' are 'liberal', and b) anyone interested in saving the environment is either too busy tying themselves to a tree (lol) or throwing paint to donate money.

In fact there's a further point, that donating money can be seen as a pussy way out of actually doing something real to make a difference. Like joining a shite facebook group instead of actually doing something.

Dunno what DU is sorry.

Do you have any statistics showing that rich people give

That link refers to classes and religious motivations for giving (or "tithing" if you're Christian) to charity. I didn't see anything political about it.

He's actually got everything to do with it...

Conservatives tend to be more religious than liberals, the Christian religion preaches charity, so because there are more Christians that are conservative, there are more conservatives that donate to charity...

Whilst I agree with what you've said here, you can't quite equate political persuasion to charity. It's more the religious persuasion influences political persuasion, and also charity. The purely political side of the argument doesn't have much to do with the charity side of things.

Correct. It's just a coincidence.

Generally, yes. Emotions are useful for identifying problems however.

I'm in a fighting mood.
Emotional response would be to pick a fight.

Logical response would be to ask "Why am I angry? How can I fix whatever is making me angry."

Don't mistake me not giving a fly fuck about you or your family while I deal with my own problems and the problems my family face as anger. It is more along the lines of complete and utter indifference, and I won't mistake you and people like you spouting off on a computer about empathy or sympathy as actually giving a fuck in real life for others.

what part is funny? The fact that I speak the truth or the fact that this truth reflects us all, and I just have the lack PC to actually admit it?

Or is this where you tell me you have lost sleep, or decided not to go out drinking or to a party because someone half a world away got raped, and you are preoccupied with empathizing or sympathizing? How many plans have you altered because you were sooooooo distressed over someones misfortune that you do not even know?................Yeah I thought so.

So you would give up your financial stabilty for someone you do not know? well that is an easy test, reduce yor quality of life to the basics and donate the rest to a worthy charity, I mean should be easy for you to do since money doesn't mean anything to you more than a human being, and you are not a capitalist and have maintained your empathy.

So it is with you lowing ... it's either black or white ...

I don't have to give up my financial stability to care about human beings ... if you at all are able to grasp what I'm talking about the difference here is when the chase for more money is more important than the people you step on to get that money ...

What amount of money is enough? ... how much time should you dedicate to collect more money?

I have a balanced budget, my wife and myself make just enough to keep a reasonable lifestyle going without working ourselves to death AND we both have time to spend with our 3 kids ... and the time to meet friends ... we both have chosen to work in the local area to add time to the family budget ... and I don't have to give to charity to excuse my financial greed, I give and support because I wan't too and when I can afford it ...

I could have sacrificed the kids and friends to make more money to buy another car or a bigger house or a gold watch etc etc ... but I value my spare time, kids and friends more ... I'm content

Nothing in this conversation is more black or white than your assertion that anyone that has succeeded in a capitalist society is greedy and lacks empathy.

The truth is, you and I live similar lives. So how is it I would fall into the greedy capitalist monster and you fall into the Mother Teressa empathetic human being?
