Hey guys, I'm interested to see what you guys do for a living and for fun. Post pictures and other relevant information if you'd like. It could be very interesting. It would be cool to know more about each other.
This is me:
Right now I'm working one full time and one part time job. My full time job consists of growing cut flowers in glasshouses owned by my uncle, then selling said flowers to local flower shops and at farmers markets throughout Dublin. My uncles become ill the last year and since I've dropped out I've un-willingly been given the responsibility of running 4 acres of glasshouses. Turning over a profit for both my uncle and I. It's nice work and I can work when ever I want. I normally spend roughly 8 hours a day up there, 6 days a week. The profit margin is huge on flowers. At markets I can sell the flowers at up to 400% of the cost price (growing price), sometimes turning over €600 a week profit. I have to pay rent to my uncle for the land/glasshouses and he gets a large portion of the overall profit. My family are very proud of me as I am the only grandson (out of 13) to take interest in the growing business, which as gone back decades in my family. It's just me and my uncles dog working up there, it gets very lonely sometimes. Here's some pics! I also order in flowers that can't be grown in Ireland from Holland. It's more expensive than growing but it gives my customers a large and good quality selection.
Right now, I'm growing Alstroemeria, sweet William, sun Flower, calla lily, lily, gyp, wax, statice, sweet-pea, snapdragon, stock and limonium.
I'm working part-time in a French Restaurant called Tarragon. It's a dull job with shit pay but I need the money. Doesn't require any brains really. Learned the menu off by heart in the first week and then all you gotta do is practice bringing multiple dishes out at the same time. Sometimes I don't finish by 3AM and have to be up in the glasshouses/at a farmers market by 8AM the next morning.
For fun I play Hurling, a national Irish Gaelic sport. It's similar to Lacrosse mixed with Rugby and Tennis I suppose. It's an amazing game that's very physically and mentally demanding. For those who haven't seen it played here's a quick YT video that explains pretty much everything about the game for those that are interested...
The pride involved in the game is unmatched anywhere else in the world. Although the game is not played 'professionally' the players that play at the highest level put in hours of work daily at training and in the gym and expect nothing in return but support and the knowledge that the man beside him is the best. These players are your teachers, your policemen, your doctors, and your friends. Every small town has 1 or more players that play at the highest level, my best mate, Craig, plays for the Dublin U21 team.
It really is an amazing game. Check out my 'game-face' I just hope I don't look like that when I play BF2
I also enjoy gaming and going out with my mates:
Here's my ride...
This is my girlfriend, she means the world to me...
That pretty much sums up me! I plan on going to uni/college in september as well as applying for the police. If I get into the police I'll defer till I get my college degree. No idea what I wanna do in uni/college yet though.
