I think you're referring to the Paxpoort (Paxgate) at the IJzertoren (Yser Tower) in Diksmuide, but I don't remember it having names of the missing. I know the Menenpoort (Menin Gate) is inscribed with names, and Tyne Cot has a long wall like that as well, which you can see on this picture.

This is the Yser Tower and the Paxgate, which I think you're referring to.

Germany
*Berlin is a must, so many things to see both WW2 stuff and architecture both old and new ... buy a guide, I've been in Berlin twice and there's prolly still stuff I haven't seen and/or know about ... 2 or 3 days is minimum ...
*Sachsenhausen and Ravensbrück is within an hour from Berlin - not many buildings left in either camp so you can do both in 1 day.
*Lübeck, visit this city for the ultimate Hansastadt experience ... I dare to say it's one of Germanys prettiest town ... 1 or 2 days ...
*Potsdam just southwest of Berlin is also a must ... like Lübeck it's a marvel of a town, sloss sans souci with gardens is a photographers wet dream ... minimum 3 days to see it all
*Mosel valley and Rhine valley - the terrain, the wine, the people, the small villages ... *sigh* just Trier in Mosel valley justifies 1 week
*Bavaria in general
Wait behind the line ..............................................................

I think the Rijksmuseum might be a better choice if you are looking for your art fix in Amsterdam. Tussaud was kind of underwhelming in my opinion.

Damn straight. If you want to go to Tussauds, go to the proper, original one in London.

@OP - Shame you're missing out on Italy, my favourite European holiday destination by miles.

- amsterdam: red light district; don't go to madame tussauds, the one in london is really better
- berlin: pergamonmuseum is a must; don't go to the bodemuseum (only christian-byzantine stuff); you could also go to the alte and neue nationalgalerie and the neue museum; gendarmenmarkt; nightlife
- munich: nice city; go to alte and neue pinakothek; dachau (near munich); englischer garten; augustiner-bräu
- switzerland: the landscape is beautiful; zürich is pretty nice
- paris: louvre is a must; montmartre
