I happen to have owned cards from both ATI and nVidia.

My current card is a 256MB Radeon 9800 Pro, my previous card was a 32MB Geforce 2 GTS. And a month or so ago I built a system with a 256MB 7800GT for a work colleague.

The basic lowdown is that hardware wise they're both on a very similar footing, however nVidia definitely holds the lead for drivers. My one big complaint with ATI is their atrociously bad opengl support. It's ok on the big opengl games like Doom 3, Quake 4 etc but on other opengl games there has been an almost constant stream of issues. (owners of Kotor 1 & 2 will know what i'm talking about)

Also, if you use Linux then the only way to go is nvidia who have incredibly good drivers. Whilst the ATI ones are pretty much non-existent.

When I buy my next system i'll be going for the XFX 512MB Geforce 7800GTX XXX Edition. Depending on how much I have left in the bank after I book my holiday to Australia.

I went to Australia late December 2004 to late January 2005 to Sydney and North East (whoops, it said West. Edit.) Australia. (around Brisbane and Mackay)

This year i'll be going to Sydney for new years and then hopping in a plane and flying to the west coast.

Sydney is a great city. Brisbane reminded me a bit of home, so I got bored quickly there.

My brother has been living and working in Sydney for the last few years, which is one of the reasons I went there.

See here for a few pics I took. This is a very small sample of the 900(!) or so I took..

Heh, look at where it says "From:" for me...

Yep, English. Leeds to be precise. (West Yorkshire)

Australia is a very nice country, I like the fact that you have barbeques in the parks with gas hooked up direct (that you don't even need to pay for) and can simply bring some food and barbeque it..  Very nice.

BTW, I went to wentworth falls (near Sydney, see the pictures with the forrest etc) and goddamn.. FLIES! Flies everywhere! I got some great photos there, but the flies.. everywhere! Everywhere!

I heard it's a lot worser around ayers rock (or Uluru) for flies, thinking of going there when I go end of this year.

I think I remember my brother mentioning that it's now frowned upon if you climb Uluru. The whole aborignal thing I think. This correct?

I'm making sure to get more exercise than normal, since when I go it'll be the height of summer over there. Gonna need to be in good shape to climb Uluru in summer.

By the way, I don't know if you've been further north than Brisbane.. but goddamn, the taxi drivers and others there are practically red necks. Some of the racist remarks begger belief. Humid as hell, beautiful place, shame about the people. (It was around Mackay)

I take it, that it's just around the far north west that's redneck country? A few people who live in Aus told me as much.
