haven't used the guitar for years and i took it out of the closet with the string broken, that's all

You should replace the strings every few weeks / months depending on usage. Not just when they break.

Eh, I haven't changed mine in like a year and a half or so... really no probs, still feel and work fine... I'm using floyd rose though so they arent as tight I suppose

you want a full set of new strings might want to give the guitar a good clean. a dirty fretboard is a horrible fretboard.

Why not? Not only is it more cost-effective to buy a bundle, but a foul deviation from another oldish string that didn't look like it needed replaced could throw you off later.
