Well sheesh, I'd think that that was a case where a few rounds laid down in front of the crowd would have scattered them. I believe on the audio you can hear them say one of them has a gun. But that was a crowd of fifty or show turned into sausage.11 Bravo wrote:
because the guys on the ground are telling them to shoot. thats what the pilots are there for, to listen and trust the word of the grunts.Vilham wrote:

I guess I don't understand this thread. The outrage just doesn't match the videos content.
Clearly the guys looked like they were carrying rifles. The pilots did their job.
THIS video however is not so clear cut. Apparently one of the crowd that was approaching some dismounted troops had a rifle. That is not visible on the video.
The crowd is much larger, the carnage much worse, yet for all the times this has been posted on this forum I have never seen anything approaching the amount of emotion in the thread.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeFMPMo7p90
the guy saying " oh dude " and the tone of his voice says a lot to me.
When the troops were going in did they have terps and pamplets saying " don't gather, don't approach and don't carry weapons? "
Because that looked like a crowd of young men gathering to protest or throw shoes.
Obviously the best solution is to not be in a country that is under attack by a military force, and if you are, leave it to the guys in uniform and stay in and out of sight. If your guys in uniform fail to destroy the interlopers guys in uniform then you comply with the new regime, or suffer.
but, holy shit, talk about excessive force, brutality and carnage. The video I posted is 100X more damning than the OP video, because imo they didn't need to kill all those people; there were lessor steps that obviously could have been taken. And there are a thousand videos more questionable. WHY THE OUTRAGE HERE?
It is simply that those aligned on the left and right haven't had a good fight lately, and this piece of propaganda fits the bill. There is little to discuss about the video in the OP. There were clearly what appears to be weapons, and the ROE must have stated that those bearing arms were to be killed.
It is stupid to say we shouldn't have been there ( which I agree with ) or that innocents got killed in this incident ( which is true ) because war is hell and people die and that is why it should be avoided at all costs.
That we went there for oil and money is not on topic. The question is, if you were a helicopter pilot in the U.S. military and you saw what they seen, would you fire? The answer is obviously yes.
And what, that makes you fukin special ? Do you want me to bow down to your superiority now? Don't get me wrong, good on you for fighting for your country but how does it feel to fight an illegal war ? how does it feel to invade another country ? How does it feel to know that your friends and all the other good men and woman died for NO FUKING GOOD REASON!JohnG@lt wrote:

It's not a left vs right thing, it's a people-with-common-sense vs retarded-communist-dick-sucks thing.
Turks did a lot of killing 2 from like 1300 till end of WW2, they enslaved a lot of countries! The enslaved countries were treated worst than blacks were treated here in America.... they would take the infants/kids of the newly countries they conquered and take them to Ankara and train them to become hardcore Muslim fighters even though they were of off other decent so when the kids grew up they wouldnt even know where they came from.. they would think they were Turks all their life.... in span of those 600 years the Turks killed/kidnapped millions probably hundred millions not sure if it would reach billions but they should be held accountable for that!!!
I don't know the time frame for either of this, and I'm not turning this into an other "We should have never invaded".. What I'm saying is that we should just man our base and let them sort out it, pick our side and if our side calls us in, Go..
If Howard Stern left the radio a long time ago, he'd still be great, but instead he's slowing becoming worse and worse.

No good reason? Ask any Iraqi today and they'll tell you that they are better off now than they were under Saddam. They have freedom now, they can elect their leaders. There was a lot of bilious rage directed at the war when I was over there. There were protests in New York City at the RNC and anti-war protesters were all over the news. Michael Moore had his Farenheit 9/11 movie out in the theaters and everyone was saying it was about oil. Yeah, it made me feel like the whole thing was kind of pointless, but it's been six years since and looking at it now I feel like we did a good job and the end in this case justified the means. The Iraqi people are better off now than they were and if a civil war doesn't break out they just might thank us in another ten or twenty years.mafia996630 wrote:

You seem to have a lot of hatred in your heart and a lot of idealism. The latter generally leads to the former so perhaps you need to take a long hard look at how you view the world. A little pragmatism goes a long way and leads to a much more positive outlook on life.

Actually sounded like frustration. They didn't want what they perceived as insurgents to get away.mafia996630 wrote:

Clear that they should have fired.
As for the minivan, if the " insurgents " had been in a wambulance marked with the international recognized sign of the red cross, er whatever, and they had fired on it it would have been a documented war crime, no?
It is not the U.S. soldiers fault that the " certified combatants " wear civillian clothes and mingle in the crowd.
Further more, if I was in command, and the ' civilians ' were digged IEDs into the ground that were killing my men I would carpet bomb the area.
If I had total command.
Fight to win or don't fight.
SO you agree that it was an illegal war ? so you agree it was something to do with Oil ? So if a civil war does break out then it was all for nothing?JohnG@lt wrote:

Ok, lets call it frustration for the sake of argument. How can you justify he didn't want them to get away when the guy was barely crawling ?Vilham wrote:

i'm so sick of america being held to this ridiculously high standard of how we need to obey these rules of engagement. i say we start using suicide bombers in civilian areas and see how much longer this war lasts.
simple fact. dont carry a gun or associate with those who do, and you won't die. it's not rocket science.

Nope, never said that I agreed that it was an illegal war. It certainly wasn't illegal by any means. It was just a continuation of the first Gulf War because Saddam thumbed his nose at the UN and kicked out the weapons inspectors. It also wasn't illegal here in the US because both houses of Congress voted in favor of the invasion. We're a sovereign nation beholden to no one and can do as we please. The UN is not a government in itself and has zero power over US citizens. So all this 'Bush needs to hang for war crimes' garbage that keeps being spewed by leftists is nothing more than impotent rage on their part.mafia996630 wrote:

And you most certainly are an idealists. I'll let you in on a little life secret, idealism leads to nothing but depression and rage.

Being a photographer... Why the fuck would you put your camera in that position? Most cameras straps are around your neck wtf. And the "lense" looks WAY too fucking long to be a field camera. How does Reuters know that those guys weren't supporting the insurgents? Shit, if you say you're a journalist you get free passes to so many places. Still doesn't look like a fucking camera to me. If you said "oh they put it in a bag" IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE A BAG.
