Oi, I have a choice between a nVidia Geforce 6600GT 256MB AGP, or ATI Radeon 9550.
Which one is better, and what one will last the longest?

more pipes = more performance and 6600 gt is newer than 9550

By five or six months.
I am so going for it. It will last me awhile, I hope. What is it's Anti-Aliasing? 8x? 6x?

so ur getting it in 5 or 6 months? if it is then i would suggest u get the 7800gt by then coz it will be a lot cheaper then. u can run 4X AA smoothly w/ the 7800gt

No, the Geforce 6600GT came out after ATI Radeon 9550 by five months.
I am getting it in a week. I have the 9550 now. I can run 6x, and also. Here is something for you guys.
http://www.3dcenter.org/atuner/index_e.php
It can turn the Anti Aliasing up to 6x. It works.

The NVidia 6600 is not supported by BF2 and may not work.  You need a 6800 or better, see the README file that comes with the game for the list of supported vid cards.  It has something to do with the pixel shader.  If anyone knows different please speak up, I need to upgrade too and would like to save a little cash.

The Nvidia card, because emperorphoenix speaks the truth.  ATI drivers....well...traditionally, they suck.

I know a few folks that play with the 6600.  I've never played from their PC, nor do I know what the max settings are (will depend on other system specs anyway), but they play fine and like the card in general.

The 6600 is supported, I know one person that uses the 6600GT OC from BFG with no problems at all and quite good results I must add.  There are some cards (ATI and NVIDIA)  that are not supported, such as the NVIDIA 5200 and the ATI 9250.  But creative people have found ways to make the game work with most all cards.  Even if it took turning down AGP from 8X to 4X.

Here is the list from EA:

I'm running a 6600 GT w/ 256 Mb + AMD64 3000+ on an MSI K8N Neo.  It runs great with all the settings cranked and no AA.  If you don't have PCIE video, then this is about the best you can do.  The 6800 is available in vanilla and APG, but for the cost you might as well upgrade the motherboard and proc and get a better card or maybe two 6600's in SLI.

I know everyone's gonna flame me for suggesting two 6600's in SLI, but some of us are running families as well as games and cash is not exactly falling off trees.  Anyway, if you want to save a few bucks grab a 6600.  Just make sure you get as much RAM on board regardless what card you get.  I'd rather have an older generation card with more RAM than a newer card at half the RAM.  Oh yeah...leave the ATI cards to the guys who like to Beta Test instead of play games.

Damn, how did I miss the 6600, thanks for the correction guys.  But here's a question for you, it says 6600 PCIe only, what about those "of us are running families as well as games and cash is not exactly falling off trees" who have AGP motherboards?  Like sgt_mango333, I don't want to spend much more then $100 to upgrade (current board is an ATI 9600 128MB) and the 6800 is almost as much as that new mother board I've been eyeing.

you dont need 6800 or better. i have BFG GeForce 6200 OC AGP w/256mb DDR2 and it works perfect. my video is set to all high and res is 1280x1024, the maps load fast and they never lag, unless half the people on the map have 200+ ping.
