More the hypothetical scenario, which happens on lot on here, like how easy would it be for the US to roll a nation like Iraq.

I can see how some people believe this could be the case, especially with the bias of certain Russian politicians, though if it were a weapons test they must have been testing some piss poor weapons. Still, if one wanted to get away with testing something on a given population in a similar fashion then doing it under the guise of it being part of a meteor shower it could potentially work.

I was presenting it more as a hypothetical than any belief I hold. Settle down.

But hey, maybe it's a nuts idea. Probably not as nuts as owning firearms to fight your own government in case of tyranny though.
Australians know about Americans landing on the moon?  Wicked

They flew Jay in and got him to jump up and down.

Haven't you heard, the US has a station up in Alaska that can cause an earthquake anywhere in the world. Or it controls  the weather, depending on which tinfoil hat you are talking to at the time.

I think the Jay story sounds more plausible.

Pretty much, I know people that have told me one or the other depending on what stupid theory they were trying to preach to me. Never mind that their stories contradict each other half the time. Funny when I disagree they yell "You're just brainwashed by CNN! You're just brainwashed by CNN! You're just brainwashed by CNN!" When I tell them I don't watch the news they just keep yelling it though.

But I think it's used to create titdal waves to flush back the Russian/Chinese/Korean, should they invade across the Bering Strait.

Was there any report of a meteor shower to hit Russia prior to it happening? There are usually warnings about these things weeks in advance.
You are vastly, vastly over-estimating our ability to find the fuckers, especially when they're fairly small like this. Alright, it's probably better now but our knowledge of NEOs remains unacceptably low.

Also, the thing came in from the general direction of the sun. Have you ever heard of a telescope that works during the day?

science (or perhaps, more generally, human knowledge) should learn to accept that we're never going to master everything - you can't exert rationality through sheer willpower to predict and understand everything. every few thousand years, a large-scale natural disaster is going to happen. no amount of science or technicism or high-falutin' ideals are going to save us from the fact that we are carbon based lifeforms sat on a rock in space. be it mortality, disease, extinction scenarios... whatever. we can't control everything. i think events like the meteorite in russia (a minor one at that) are mostly uncomfortable because they symbolize in one neat, visceral little sound/video-bite how little control we really have over our life here on earth.

ever. death is a part of life. human hubris cannot extend to stop mass extinction events. the best we can do is spread out over multiple planets/solar systems, to 'out-live' localized extinctions.

Well if you mean "human" as we are now, sure. But there's no guarantee that we'll remain the same species for eternity, or even carbon-based.

well then we won't be humans, will we. homo sapiens. we'll be something else. what a great line of argument!

and how the fuck will we evolve to not be a carbon based lifeform? you've been reading too much fantasy.
