Who has it or is going to get it? I've already downloaded it and will be playing it in approximately 6 hours when it unlocks. Dill13 and I have been playing coop together, and hopefully we can continue with our current squads.

Link.

I've ordered it, but I still like Dark Crusade better than DoW 2.

Dill and I just got done playing. It's a lot more difficult, but very fun. Plan on not going down the path of damnation.

Meh.

1) Same CGI opening as the first game. Unimportant, but even SOULSTORM had new CGI.
2) It only lets you save and exit to menu.
3) Sloppy. The first mission spams imperial guard artillery spotters with an insane amount of hit points OUT OF NOWHERE. I can literally stand there with my force commander killing one after another as they appear, and there's no limit to the barrages they can call. If this was the designers' way of hitting you with a bunch of artillery in the first mission, it was poorly planned.

At least it gives us Chaos.

edit: HOW MANY FUCKING TIMES DO I HAVE TO ENTER MY CODE?! Gotta enter it to install it. Gotta enter it to unlock the bonus shit on Relic's site. Gotta enter it AGAIN to activate it on windows fucking LIVE.

Enough's enough!

I installed it via steam, actually. Had to activate it with the code first. Once I got into the game, I had to activate it again using Games for Windows Live. Then I tried registering on MyRelic for the pre-order bonus stuff and had to enter the code for that, but it didn't work.

I'm starting to get tired of pre-order nonsense and cross-game unlocks. It's getting too complicated.

Opening scenes get old after seeing it only once, not matter how impressive they were. Soulstorms' was more of an in-game cinematic with bumped up graphics. Using previous CGI is not like reusing box art or something.

Did you die on the first mission or something? Chaos Rising was supposed to be more tense and have a better pace than DOW 2, which was longer and more repetitive. I guess getting uber wargear beforehand helped out quite a bit.

What code are you talking about anyways? I didn't get one and I pre-ordered on steam. It prompts you to install cd-keys but it usually does it for you anyways.

1) Sure, you aren't going to watch it every time you start the video, but it's nice to see it when they put the effort into it...even Soulstorm's. Cutting it out just makes them look lazy. Edit: We haven't had chaos in a CGI yet, so when I waited for the opening sequence, the last thing I expected was an ELDAR standing over a space marine.

2) I didn't die in the first mission. The artillery was negligible. What wasn't acceptable was that I found a spot where the spotters INSTASPAWN with more health than a space marine. It's both silly and poorly executed.

3) Retail has a code. Had to activate it on steam and GFWL in-game. See, there's retailers outside of Steam like Gamestop and Amazon and...oh, nevermind, you already know.

edit2: to be fair, I'll give it credit for terrain improvement and more dialog

Winter Assault didn't have one either. Relic will do one, but it's expensive and time consuming. They're not lazy. If you've ever done any modding, you'd know how ridiculously long modeling, animation, and level design takes. They are not like Blizzard that has a dedicated in-house CGI team that can make epic CGI scenes whenever they want.

You were supposed to get endlessly barraged, hence getting spammed with spotters with lots of health. I don't recall them being tougher than a regular space marine.

You might as well have ordered it on steam if it's a steam game. You know what's great? Game's like Quake 4 that won't even install on Windows 7 because it can't read the version of flash the install prompt uses. Yea, but if it was on steam, it would install. And I did order it from Amazon just to test out my new built PC.

Winter Assault didn't have a new one, sure, but at least they gave one to Soulstorm and Dark Crusade, even if they were short. I still wish they made one for Winter Assault and Chaos Rising, and it irks me that they didn't.

I know I was supposed to be endlessly barraged, but can't you read? The execution is STUPID. How can the imperial guard teleport in arty spotters with more hit points than a space marine (yeah they don't hit for much, but they have tons of health and have no limit to the call-it-in-every-2-seconds) for as long as I feel like killing them? They should have used aircraft spotting. Basically, I can park my guys in one spot of the map and just watch the same dude appear over and over again. Lame.

I don't need to be told where and how to order video games.

Lamest ending ever, +cliffhanger.

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Played my heart out going for chaos. It didn't feel very chaosy towards the end. I was classified as 'lost to the dark gods,' but my guy just stood there and let himself be executed by Gabriel Angelos. I replayed the last mission but Angelos is immortal, so even if I let his army die around him, he'll never fall. SUCKS. And what, did they run out of steam when it came to the end? All you got to fight was a deamon and not the real bad guy? Meh.

Next playthrough I'll stay 'pure' to see if that's any more satisfying, because chaos sucked. As corrupted as my squads were getting, they showed very little visual or off-hand dialog evidence of it.

edit: as it turns out, there's more than one corruption ending, but if half my guys being 'lost to the dark gods' and the rest being a hair from total corruption don't cut it, then I'm not trying it again. I'll just youtube it.

WAY too fiddly to bother.

Sorry I gave you the false impression where to buy your games. Buy it wherever, and do what you will with your games. That includes griping over every little thing possible. You have to remember the DOW series strongpoint is multiplayer, not single player. It could have been longer and more grand, with more playability considering there are different endings based on how pure or corrupt your squads are, but once again Relic didn't deliver an incredibly awesome single player.

Maybe it was a lot more fun playing with a friend (dill) online.

DOW 2 multiplayer is meh compared to single player.
The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.

It has much more playability than single player does.

Quite frankly I think it'd be nice if you could customize your army's weapons units and all that like single player except more versatile.

The series' strongpoint is DoW 1 and its expansions and, for singleplayer, Dark Crusade. Chaos Rising feels more like DLC. Don't I have the right to gripe about a part of the game I didn't like if I spent all that money on it?

Looks like I'm not the only one who who has trouble reading. I'm not saying you don't have a point. I simply never ran across the issue. You can apparently make the worst out of your $30, I'll make the best of mine.

No problem at all, poochiekins.

If there's something I don't like about it, I don't see any reason to not bring it up. I do believe I mentioned somewhere that some of the new dialog is cool and I like the terrain, if you want good points, and I'd like to add that the two new classes in Last Stand are fun, even if it takes forever to find a server. Haven't done much with the chaos sorcerer yet, but the hive tyrant is a great 'necro' class.

So again:
* REALLY feels like a rehash of the first game, even if only an expansion.
* I did say that I liked some of the new dialog, but it's REALLY hard to tell that you're turning to chaos, other than a few off-hand warnings and remarks throughout the campaign. Your mannerism animations don't even really seem to change when you're 'lost to the dark gods.'
* The path of corruption seems relatively mild and non-specific. I might have missed some obvious hoop to jump through, but I got the chaos lite ending, where I was making every corrupt decision imaginable.
* Plugging moral decisions into the campaign is a good way to make it seem bigger while not having to make two campaigns. However, I'd like to see something else get its own campaign, like the Imperial Guard or Eldar. I hope the next expansion follows the second-expansion model from the first DoW and adds two new races. I'd like to see IG and Tau, as well as a 'Total War' type strategic overworld, but that's just me.
* I hate Games for Windows Live for superimposing itself over Steam. If this trend continues any longer, I hope the two services just merge and remain free of charge (aside from the games themselves).

Dill and I just got done playing through it a second time, this time taking the corrupt path. Not everyone didn't get fully corrupted until maybe 3 missions before the last boss but it's rather easy. Where did you have difficulties with corruption?

I'll agree the new dialogue could have been more different. Maybe evil plotting by members? You could tell some going crazy and there was definitely different dialogue compared to the pure path, but there are very noticeable gameplay differences. Maybe not many new missions to play, but there are certainly rewards and consequences for going corrupt.

I can only say this. You really can't expect an expansion pack to be much more grand than the original. Chaos Rising had what it had to build on.

I was fully corrupted (lost to the dark gods) easily, but it didn't give me the fully corrupted ending. Instead, it gave me the partially corrupted ending where Gabriel Angelos hammers me in the face.

We escaped and joined the black legion.

Yea reducing blood raven casualties below 75 will redeem everyone and thus ruin your max corruption.

I think I did let the Blood Ravens die, but I'll give it another shot.
