Tough about your education Sh1fty-, but you don't want to make your decision just on that. Of course it is important but not as important as your family. You don't want to make a practical decision then have moral regretts ever after. People always say "kids" should be kept out as much as possible and not pick sides. I think that's bollocks. Everyone who has a brain has an opinion and I think in some cases you both have the right and the duty to state it.

When my grandfather was in the RAF they gave him a Sten. He said he never shot it once but it still managed to clip his thumbnail off.
From what I know about Stens... he got lucky that it didn't open full fire whenever the trigger came within 10 meters of his hand.
Only in the beginning, after a few "incidents" they drilled a little hole in the bolt so it could be locked in place. Without the safety the problem was that soldiers tended to stamp it on the ground on "present firearm" and it would empty an entire clip roughly in the direction of the soldiers face.
Don't bash the Sten though, it was an amazing weapon for something that could be produced for ONE pound.
Yes, it was, but... well, its faults were pretty bad. It did its job as a mass produced SMG, but by the time most issues were fixed, it was obsolete. However, although it technically sucked, you're right. It did account for a great many victories. And, it performed admirably. And, mass production! yay!
Oh, and sh1fty, really sorry about your situation. However, If you have to make a compromise between family and your education, try to see how long your education will take, and the places it can be gotten at. Then, arrange a schedule so that you can spend time with one of your parents before you go to the other parent to start your vacation. Not a solid plan, but just an idea. I feel bad for you though. You're allowed to maintain full communications with both your parents, right ? Hopefully.
