How to run a downloaded map
Since extracting is often required, make sure you have a good extracting program, like WinRar (This can be purchased, or you can download a demo. And yes, you can get one of those “probably legal” versions as well. I do not endorse pirating. The last time I tried, the crew mutinied. With pistols. And cannons. D:<)
Note: This is for PC or Microsoft users. If you use a Mac, (God have mercy on your soul), some one will probably be more than happy to tell you in the comments section. And, if by some off chance that Winrar is supported or often used on a Mac, feel free to complain in the comments section.
1. Download the file. For example, let’s call it “Hot zone map”.
2. Click on “Open”(If you click open, skip step 3), or save the map if you want to open it later. If you save the map, save it in any directory.
3. If you saved it, double click it to extract (Only if you need to).
4. Now, you should have the extracted file. Copy the file, and paste it in whichever directory you like. For demonstrations sake, let’s paste it in “desktop”.
5. Now, double click on the file. In it, another file should be located, however, this one should be called “Hot_zone”.
6. Now, here is the important part. First, make sure that two files, called “Client.zip” and “Server.zip”, are located inside. DO NOT EXTRACT THEM. Also, make sure that a file labeled “Info” is located here, too.
7. Now, copy the folder called “Hot_zone”, or whatever folder contains the previously listed files inside it. Remember, the folder you must copy is the one that you should be able to double click and see the previously listed files.
8. Now, go to “C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2”. From here, click on the “mods” folder, and then the bf2 folder. Then click on “Levels”.
9. You should be in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels. Now, paste the file here.
10. Now, go into the file “Hot_zone” and make sure all the files are there. Now, the final step.
11. Copy the zipped file called “server.zip”.
12. Go back to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2, and click on BF2SP. You should now be in C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2SP
13. Create a new folder and name it something like “Backup_HZ”.
14. Paste “server.zip” in here.
15. There. You now have a lovely new map and a terrible headache from reading these instructions.
