That should make them not want you in uniform.
Because we all know what the military wants is 120 pound officers who have a nasty habit of consuming their body mass in drugs and alcohol each month.
Uzique, you couldn't handle the 1st year of West Point, much less make it all the way through to officer.
Hell, I doubt you'd make it through 2 months of basic training, as an enlisted private.
To the OP;
If a couple years of service in your country's military is the law, then just do it.
Pay your dues to your country, do it right and well, then be on your way.
Not like you're going to do much more than a couple years of training, getting in shape, etc.
Last I checked, Norway wasn't involved in any major wars at the moment.
Two years of service isn't anything. A couple months training, then the rest of the two years just doing your boring ass job.
I did two years of 16-20 hours per day military training schools in my first enlistment.
dw jens if you've played bf2 then you'll have no worries!
It's just one year mandatory military service ...rdx-fx wrote:

Going to Afghanistan is on a voluntary basis ...

Wikipedia wasn't too clear on it, but this is like serving a year in the civil defence/national guard/reserves, right? So as you said they won't ship you off to Afghanistan, but instead you will stay home and guard the fort. Once your year of service is up, do you get placed in the reserves for a certain period of time? Considering they've just spent a year training you, it would make sense..Varegg wrote:

No they won't. Had a dude in my unit with Norwegian and Finnish passports and who was living in Norway. He came willingly when he was asked. He even didn't have to do the full 230 days at the time.ruisleipa wrote:

ed. And to the OP: "ARE YOU A MAN OR MICKEY MOUSE?!" Do it. It's a good experience. Besides you might learn things. And if you get to be a instructor for the next batch of n00bs it will look good on your resume later as leading skills.

I think conscription in Norway is National Guard type. I know for sure he won't get sent to Afghanistan. Sending conscripts to a war is just bad press and political suicide...mcminty wrote:

It's only a year. Maybe you can do some tests while you're in - I know a guy that did that here in Austria while he did his service.
zeek...shut your face and cut that hair.
Regular conscription is not National Guard like at all ...Cybargs wrote:

After one year of mandatory service you are dismissed and placed in the reserves until you are 55 with training excersises every 4th or 5th year for about 3 weeks each time ...
The National Guard is it's own branch, you can do your mandatory service in the NG and only serve for 6 months but then again you have 1 week repetition each year until you are 44 ...
If you don't "qualify" for regular service you may be placed in various parts of the civil defense after 1 year of civil duty ...

If you have the balls to withstand the drill instructors, you might as well stop acting like a complete fuckhole and join the army.Hurricane2k9 wrote:

What 'record' though? I'm not aware of Norwegian information collection, but in the US we have a million records. Medical records for different doctor's offices, insurance records, criminal records, school records...
The government knows, anyways, so if you're applying for a job in said government..
-Openly gay (although that's changing)
-Asthma after age 13
-Bipolar disorder and other serious mental disorders
-Suicide attempts
-I think cancer
-Being a felon
-Failure to adapt
That last one might be an option. Get sent to boot camp, don't listen to the drill instructors, eventually you'll get discharged for failure to adapt. In the US it's an entry-level separation, not a dishonorable discharge or anything like that.
edit: You could also just suck it up and serve one year. Can you pick your job?
-Do dope and fail the piss test (and be labeled as a drug user for the rest of your life by the Norski gov).
-Watch Universal Soldier and be more like you idol Dolph Lundgren from next door Sweden
-Think of good explanations when applying later in life for a job when the execs ask you why you couldn't handle the mandatory 1 year in the army.

Binge eat -> get fat -> fail at running/pushups.
Actually whats the worst that could happen apart from being bored for a year?
You have sign up for uni now and do it after? Hard luck.

Just do the time. It might even be good for you. Just look at the fine exemplary individual I became after my service.
Besides, poon was easy to get with my beret when I was 19/20, combined with my innocent boyish looks, puppy eyes and giraffe neck (as I weighed in at probably 62kg at that time):
So go out there and score some tang on your leaves.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
think you misunderstood. I know from expereince that if you are living abroad, have dual nationality, they'll call you up but you don't have to go, but then if you come to Finland they'll make you do it, cos that's what happened to me. Note your mate came to Finland and did his service willingly.Ultrafunkula wrote:

So if a person with dual citizenship happens to come by plane for instance to Finland they'll arrest you and send you to a garrison for the next 6 months even if you decline? I really doubt that.ruisleipa wrote:
