In Peru now, Arequipa. Nice place, shops are open more, facilities are more modern, buses are pretty sweet. Peru has made a good impression on me. Peruvians on the other hand have not, especially with driving. Seriously, thy should outfit car horns to give the driver an electric shock whenever they use them, just to subtly hint that, no, you shouldn't lean on your horn for more than a minute when you can clearly see there's an obstruction ahead that the car in front of you can do absolutely nothing about. That and they need to lean about where they put themselves on the road. For example when taxis pull over they don't actually pull over, they just stop in the middle of the street leaving the person behind them to headbutt their car horn. You can literally see drivers with thir hand hovering over the car horn just waiting for the smallest opportunity to use it.
Thinking of buying a paintball gun. There's a great sniping spot at the top of the Hostel I'm at.
Not as cheap as Bolivia which kind of sucks but I made the most of the cheapness of Bolivia by buying a kick-ass leather jacket for 450 Bolivianos before I left, ($90 NZD, $65 USD.)
Only, (probably,) eleven days left before I head back to NZ. Funds are running low and I'm set to return to NZ completely penniless. My rich second cousin who lives in Florida has offered to fly me there since I have to change my flights thanks to my neurotic travel companion who got homesick , (meaning working for a month at the biological reasearch station in Equador became a no-go,) but staying in the US for a month really would fuck with my funds leaving me LESS than penniless. Would like to do it though... sigh. Next time I get a chance to go to North America would probably be in two or three years - after I complete my NEXT degree, (by the way I've decided to follow on my Political Science degree with something that actually appeals to me so now I've decided to do an animation and design degre in hope of working for Weta Digital at some point in the future.)

So yeah, that's my update. Hope you're all grand.

I should also warn people if they choose to travel to this part of the world, in particular Copacobana on the shores of lake Titicaca, that Isla de Sol is a bit of a tourist trap. It was a shitty way to leave Bolivia which has mostly been very good to me. You pay for the boat fare over to the island, (20 BOB,) thn you have to pay a further 10 to get to the ruins, (only attraction really,) which is fair enough and it includes admission to a museum which, as far as I could tell, was a display of empty display boxes. That's not the shit part though, you learn later after the ruins that the ticket you bought was only for the north end of the island. There's a group of people hanging around with tickets in the middle of the only path through the island refusing you to pass unless you pay another 10 BOB. They give you another ticket from the south end of the island. THEN, just before you get to the part where you can finally go back down and meet the boat to take you back to Copacobana there's ANOTHER fucking group of people demanding more money to let you walk through their shitty town so they can try to sell you shit you don't want. Every person who lives along the road wants you to pay them so you can walk on it. The shit thing is that they're not actually offering any service with it, they're not upkeeping the track or clearing it of litter, (they're more adding to it,) they just want to fucking milk tourists who at the time have no other option to think, (ah well, it's only another few Bolivianos.)
All in all the various tolls only set you back 25 Bolivianos which is fuck-all but it's the principle of the thing. If, at the start, they demanded 25 Bolivianos I'd be fine with that, it was just the sneaky ''can't go back now'' tourist-trap way it was done.
So yeah, Copacobana and Isla de Sol left a bad taste in my mouth which was kind of lame.
The ruins were pretty cool by the way but to be honest Isla de Sol isn't really worth the day it takes to experience it. I'd advise against it unless you're planning to stay overnight on the Hostel on the island which I've heard is pretty nice.
