I wonder how many times he rolled it while trying to practice. Here I think the difference is that he has a reasonable prospect for success, and isn't going to die if he rolls it going 10km/h. The risk is just not as large.
When your goal is to lose control, I don't know what the fuck you're expecting to happen. Too look 'cool' for 30 seconds before you're turned into puree?
edit- if you want to live with a narcissistic indifference to life or death to revel in the moment, whatever. I can't argue against an action grounded in an entirely different ontological system. I'm assuming rationality, not impulsiveness.
