Confirmed my flights today.

I'm flying out to Haiti on the 28th via Antigua, I'm guessing I'll be there for about 2-3 months helping out, so my big fun trip to the US is off for now. My wife is insisting on coming, she's wonderful.

I knew there'd be a day when my home region would be in need, never done anything like this before, but it's something I need to do.
Good on you man. Best of luck in your efforts.

Companies do it for good PR and press, but what would China actually gain for giving lets say what you may consider a fair amount, 100 million? Politicians aren't moral people, you just can't be. True, but it doesn't make you look very good when you're awash with oil money and then only give an absolute pittance... i.e. Russia, giving a grand total of two million post-tsunami compared to the ~1 billion from aus and ~2.8billion from the US.

Funny how much $$$ people get from a natural disaster. But if your house burns down and you lose everything, you get next to nothing from any agency or charity. $200 max

Fucking New Orleans biches got 5 grand each.

If you didn't have homeowners or renters insurance it's your own fault you don't have a pot to piss anymore

Besides, since when is 5 grand a lot of money?

Also there's abit of a difference between natural disaster and your home burning down and none of the others doing so.

So this leads me to my question: What the hell is wrong with the wealthy in the USA?
In this case? Nothing. Wealth comes with no obligation to engage in philanthropy.

Good on you man. I actually would do it (even though I have no relation to the area) but I'm hearing it's pretty deadly with gangs/escaped inmates running amuck taking advantage of the situation. Fucking horrible.

Be safe.

I donated $10 to the Red Cross through my phone before, and will probably again before the week is up.

It's his home region.  So, he has some connection.  Like the recent flooding in Manila.  Lots of people we know shipped a shitload of clothes and stuff, freight forwarders donating logistics, to help out those we have a connection to.

Why is it that those wealthy individuals who do donate are subject to more criticism than those who don't?  Sure they could afford to donate more, but they have donated quite a bit already - good on them, I say.

Sounds like Haiti could use some logistics support.  Took 6 hours to unload one plane because of a lack of equipment, and aid planes are being denied permission to go/land, as the airport has run out of jet fuel.
