But Bluray isn't that much of a quality enhancement. I wonder, is it worth investing in buying all those movies over again in Bluray?

Either way, when I'm an adult and move out I'll get Bluray. I'll just use my computer for all my DVDs. Because I'm not buying Band of Brothers again, or the Bourne Trilogy or any of my awesome action movies again and move expensive when I already own them.

Your first sentence is ludicrous. End of.

Secondly, it's silly to think about buying your whole collection over again every time mediums change, and it's just as silly to avoid adopting a new medium because you have an established collection. Just start buying Blu-Rays given the choice, it's not like you'll never be able to use your DVDs again.

Many of the new Blu Ray players have "DVD upscaling" , which creates an image almost as good as Blu ray. Its not going to as good, but it means that you can keep all your DVD's and enjoy pretty good quality, and start buying Blu rays. Blu ray discs are pretty expensive in Australia though. Not sure how dear they are OS.

I get the feeling that BluRay isn't going to take off, (so to speak.) I mean think about it; there's only a minimal improvement in picture quality and most of the time it's down to the quality of your TV/Projector rather than the disc itself. Also note that BluRay pushes BluRay-exclusive bonus features that really could be included on DVD as well - but they don't want that, they want people to upgrade. It's such a paper-thin effort to get people to switch to BluRay when there's no real advantage and BluRay will no doubt be replaced in time by something that is actually a significant format change.

At the end of the day it may be best to go BluRay on the player side of things simply because they are going to be pushing BluRay as hard as they can as well as attempting to make DVDs obsolete. BluRay playerss can play DVDs and BluRay so really you get the best of both worlds. The BluRays themselves though... a waste of money.

I think it's great anyway, the pushing of BluRay has had the effect of bringing down DVD prices so I'm stoked.

Most of them cost only 15€ here. I just bought "A bridge too far" the other day. 14.99

I just don't think Bluray is that good. Sure it's pretty, but it's still not worth all that extra money, when I have DVDs that are fine and cheaper.

It may not be a bad idea to get a PS3 and play both formats anyway.

Is it possible to have a monitor output both a Bluray player/PS3 and a computer at the same time. Like are there monitors out there that you can switch between 2 different inputs on the same monitor.

If so, is this monitor capable of doing so - http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=431103 ?

Id go for either a Blu Ray player or a PS3. BDs look great on my 50" Plasma. DVDs upscaled to 1080p look good too.

Not really, it depends on the film. If it was a relatively recent film. Then they may have already filmed it in HD, so getting it on blu ray would be worth it. If it's a film from like the 70's, then a blu ray version would just be digitally upscaled, it would be good, but not really worth it. Stick to blu ray for buying the latest films only IMO. Like The Dark Knight and shit.

Dunno why people say you can't really notice HD, and you can't notice the difference between 720p or 1080p unless you have a 50" TV. On my bloody 22" room HDTV I can easily notice the difference between 720p and 1080p. Maybe it's in the way you have those audio fags who can discern the audio quality of everything whereas normal people it would just be all the same. Or maybe not, because it's visual, which means it should be 100X easier to notice differences.

It is hard for me to say which I like: I have a DVD player (720P) and a Blu-Ray Player (1080P). My decision is subjective because I use to watch DVD movies on S-video for a while then upgraded to Component Video. Afterwards, the video quality was quite noticeable, however; I do not see much of an improved video quality between DVD (720P) and Blu-ray (1080P & HDMI video cable). If I really wanted to (which I don't), I would rent the same movie in DVD and Blu-Ray and compare them both simultaneously.

On a side note: the DVDs on Blu-Ray look like crap. Blu-Ray player management agent automatically assigns my blu-ray movies to display the video to something much less than 1920x1080 (solution:I have disabled the auto-assigned and set the player to 1080). My blu-ray player has constant firmware updates. I fear one day a bad firmware will brick my player.

Come to think of it, hey Euro guys. Does our-side-of-the-planet-PS3:s have regional settings for dvd:s? I have a pile of Region 1 discs and wouldn't want to have 2 players gathering dust and electric bills.

Blu-ray is amazing. I was pretty late in getting it, but holy fucking shit I love it.

I only buy Blu-rays now.

I think so. From what I know, for games the PS3 is region free, but for other shit, the DVD's/Blu Ray films are region locked

Hum. So if I wanted to watch my US&A imports I'd have to mod the thing. Anyone have any xp points on that?

I'm still trying to decide if I want a PS3 or a normal BR player. Already have a 360 and a Wii in the livingroom so the female started to keep this odd whiny noise when I mentioned the possibility of a PS3 instead of the current DVD player. I know the PS3 has quality BR features n shit since it kicks ass in tests.
