Anyone know anything about the ATD-X?
Japan's stealth concept?

Aanythingisuseless against an F-22. Unfortunately, when one country builds something that makes everything else obsolete, that's when an arms race begins. Oh, and I wouldn't say all Russian planes are useless against F-22's

And India's building these. They're not much good vs a raptor, but they're great attack planes.

ATD-X Development is stalled.
They have wind tunnel models, and not much more.

They're either going with the F-35, or their own airframe with the F-35 internals:

Aw. Then again, the J-10 had difficulties on wind tunnels, and look how succesful it got...

Hopefully we see the first ATD-X Prototye in the next three years or so.

Doubt it.  The Japanese defense-aerospace brings to mind words like 'labyrinth' and 'Byzantine'.

Their development process makes the US look positively efficient.

They also seem to abandon 10 prototype designs before they finally get one approved.

Really? Wow. Maybe they should use another already existing aircraft as their basis, because even if they want an indigenous aircraft, a second opinion never hurts.

How is the F35 stealth capabilities? Or is it just a VTOL with no stealth abilities?

Can the F35 add external hardpoints like the F22 if it needs more payload?

Yeah, it has the capabilities to add hardpoints, depending on the version you order.

It can also go, "Sky's clear.  Roll in the C-130's, C-17's, B-52's and B-1's" to 'deliver more payload'.

Stealth capabilities is not a static thing.  It depends more on the capabilities of the opposing radar, position of the enemy radar, and whether or not the enemy radar is set up as a 'grid array network'.

Just because your stealth aircraft doesn't bounce radar signals back to the original enemy radar, doesn't mean some other station can't catch them...

Think of it like this. F-22 and F-35, majority of the signals wont catch them.

F-16... all radar catches it. That's not scientific, but it's the gist of it. See my F-22 and F-35 guides, if you like. They're more explanatory. Hell, even B-1 lancers have stealth capabilities.

I thought planes like the F117, B2 Spirit and F22 were like totally radar proof and they could fly over whatever place they want without being detected.

So what radars can pick them up?

british radars always been very good, and i think the russians have a new type of radar developed just for this, but it's range is rather low.

All planes reflect radar waves.  The trick is to make the reflection tiny, so it doesn't get noticed.  This gets easier as you create smaller radar cross sections and get further from the radar stations.

So the U.S. can't totally rape a country with airpower then? It can't just fly above China with B2 Spirits and bomb the shit out of them if we needed to?

One F-117 has been lost in combat with the Army of Yugoslavia. On 27 March 1999, during the Kosovo War, the 3rd Battalion of the 250th Air Defence Missile Brigade under the command of Colonel Zoltán Dani, downed an F-117A, callsign "Vega 31", AF serial number 82-0806, with a Yugoslav version of the Soviet Isayev S-125 'Neva' (NATO name SA-3 'Goa') anti-aircraft missile system. According to NATO Commander Wesley Clark and other NATO generals, Yugoslav air defenses detected F-117s by operating their radars on unusually long wavelengths, making the aircraft visible to radar for brief periods. It is also possible that the aircraft was visible due to a disruption of its radar signature caused by open bomb-bay doors. This was the justification given by Colonel Dani in a 2007 interview.

Ouch

Likw here's your top-of-the-line bomber that nobody can detect, then some radar dude turns the wavelengths up.

The RAF was offered an upgraded Nighthawk model but turned it down.

So what do they use instead of the Nighthawk?

I don't know too much about planes to be honest. I wish I had some more nice flight sims with some nice planes. Like maybe F18s, F15s and maybe A10s. I miss A10 Cuba, did anybody ever play that?

Nothing, our air force strike aircraft consists of Harriers, Tornados and Eurofighters, the EF being the closest thing to something stealthy.

It can. Although stealth aint 100%, the US isn't stupid. Before an attack on China, they'd plan it weeks in advance, and make sure the raids were in zones where radars were the least likely to detect them. And, if the USA needed to bomb the crap out of China, ICBM carrying nuclear subs would probably be doing a lot of the heavy lifting, too.

The RAF has nothing stealthy, but MOAB's right, they have some serious air-to-ground firepower. Tornadoes, Harriers, and Eurofighters pack a heavy punch.

China's trying to get out a stealth fighter to combat the raptor.

Interesting stuff right there PACE.

If you're going to invade a country, what are the steps to doing so? Something like:

A - stealth craft destroy enemy AA
B - bombers come in to destroy logistics, communication, etc.
C - tanks and infantry secure the rest?

I know it depends on the situation but I'm sure there's some basic steps they follow.

What country has the best chance at defeating the US military? Other than the actual country's government.
