To ruispleipa: You seem to have a strong negative sense around the military... Especially US allies. I'm sure camm being in the Navy won't be shooting civilians.

who mentioned civilians? I just said blowing shit up. But, you know if you're in the military you're representing your country through force of arms, and do what they tell you to do ("fuck you I won't do what you tell me!" etc etc ). Even if you disagree with the govt there's no choice you still have to go and fuck shit up y'know? still have to be part of invasion forces if the govt decides to invade some country. still have to press that button which launches a missile onto a village if your commander tells you to do that. even if the govt or your commander is (a bunch) of dickwad(s). joining the military also means you're helping to prop up teh arms industry. boys with toys and all that.

Personally I think there's much better ways of 'serving your country' rather than joining the military.

But like I said hope he feels he's made the right choices in ten years time...

Actually if your commander breaks military law on the ROE when targeting civies, you have the right to disobey orders. But you still have to be part of the invasion. It's not hard transferring into a non-combat unit.

To camm: RN will straighten you out, probably go get a college degree right after. Hell if you get sent to Afghanistan (probably not), you could probably expect a big fat paycheck. As far as I know an in the aussie army they pay you 10k per month if you get sent to the sandbox.

Well after 8 years service I get a big fat juicy £15,000 bonus And there's a chance I could get sent to Afghan, unlikely since I'll be submarine based, but I get danger pay for Afghan (Only if I volunteer, which I will be doing)

Not entirely sure what I want to do once I leave, police maybe?

If you go 8 years might as well stay for that fat juicy pension.
