For that money you can get a decent Golf (classic Mini you're looking at more money unless you want a rust bucket), get an oldish 3 series if you want something with a little class, or an A4 if the maintenance/insurance costs of the 3 series bother you, they're all plenty fast enough to lose you your license quite quickly
If you just want a decent reliable car that'll last you a couple of years without too much depreciation any small diesel will do, they go forever, 150k miles is basically barely used lol (as long as it's serviced properly) like I said earlier my 206 is about to hit 250k miles and it's still running like new, not particularly exciting to drive but, you can have some fun with it, and considering all new drivers are on a 2 year probationary period where potentially just one offence will take your nice shiny license off you, if you're looking for an exciting car you can wave bye bye to your license
