The roof insulation is such a stupid argument. It was the installers who were abusing the system and cutting corners. Nothing the govt. could have done to change that.

The govt set up a system where the installer licensing system was a joke and untrained and unskilled workers did the job.
Approving subsidies for foil insulation in lofts, with virtually no insulating properties but great electrical conductivity, was clueless at best.
That and a claims system where installers could claim for work not done on houses they'd never visited....

Tax is only 15c up to $37,000 now so chances are they'll just rejig it all so people still pay exactly the same, while getting a headline out of it.

In the end my baseline position - which is that a $23/tonne ct is a good plan - hasn't really changed today. I want to wait until I actually see the legislation and hear the second reading debate in the houses.
