theres been others in the groups since him, but he's the only one i've heard of. then again, living in a border country i'd say 1 in 5 men were in some form of ira at that time.

I don't know too much about my family tree. I do know one thing though, l come from a forces family.

Me - Ex Grenadier Guard
Dad- Ex Raf
Mum- Ex Raf
Grandma- Ex Navy
Grandad- Ex Navy... Was a landing ship driver during the WWII. Didn't talk to much about it to my dad, however did say he spent alot of time traveling to and from Sicily.
Grandpa- Ex Raf, One of the last of the National Service. Then went on to become managing director of ICI.
Great Uncle (I think)- Ex Scots Grey, Saw a pic of him as a Kettle Drummer. (Scots Grey became amalgamated with another lot to form the Blues and Royals. House hold Cav)
Great, Great Grandfather- Ex Grenadier Guard. 4th Battalion and died during WWI Thinks hes Buried at Ypres.

No doubt there's more in my family, however l need to have a look!

Great granda (mam's side) fought in WWI, lost his leg to shrapnel I think. Unfortunately don't know a lot about him other than that.

The family manor created in 1432, Cornwell. There's a little missing but from 1569 onwards the family tree is basically complete.

It's cool how you know about those people way back then. I don't know anything past 1930. Except some little information about a great great grandfather in WW1.

Amazing that over 200 people are alive thanks to him.

I have a relative who works on our ancestry for hobby.  She has traced it back to a guy named Torf from the 900's.  No kidding.  When I get to my parents place next I will grab a scan of it.  Not sure if she has put it online anywhere, have to check that out to.

Did some reading into my family research book, and found some cool facts. Stuff I've known before, but fun to read again.

Both Grandfathers fought in the Winter and Continuation wars, Grand dad on my father's side was a Captain, Grand dad on mother's side a private.
Great great grandfather: Astronomer, participated in making Carte du Ciel, Donner crater on the far side of the moon is named after him.

Others, not directly from my family branch, but related:

Three (I think) brothers who were arms designers during the cold war, started grenade launching manufacturing in Israel, among others. One had both Finnish and French passports so he could skip about both sides of the iron curtain. Funky.

One filmmaker/writer/politician, so far the only Finn who has won the Academy Award, this for producing Ingmar Bergmans "Fanny & Alexander".

One British ex-MP (died in 1988), served in the Royal Air Force during World War II and was knighted in 1953. His offspring would be my 8th cousins? Lulz.
I need around tree fiddy.

Paternal grandfather fought for America in WWII: Navy plumber. Deployments to North Africa and England.
Great grandfather on that same side left his village in Ukraine due to persecution by the Cossacks in 1912 or something. He then proceeded to shovel horse shit for the NYC Dept. of Sanitation until he made his way up the ranks to ensure financial stability for his family during the Great Depression.

Other great grandparents originate from Austria, Romania (some of the family there were killed in the Holocaust), Poland, and maybe Russia too.
