I'm not sure which to install once I get my copy of Ultimate.  Obviously x64 is going to be future proof but I've heard that 7 x64 still has issues with some things.

I need suggestions and explanations

If you have less than 4GB ram, go 32 bit. If you have 4GB or more, go 64 bit

x64 is great for me, been running it for over 2 months with zero problems.

So no one has any stability or especially compatibility issues with x64?

I never came accross problems in Vista x64 and haven't seen any problems in Windows 7 x64 as of yet.

just be wary of iTunes on any windows x64 system

iTunes + x64 Windows = shitstorm

only thing about 64 bit i dont like, maybe its just me, is that whenever i install something it does't put a shortcut so i have to go in the directory and find it but not a big deal really for what you get with 64.

By the way, any particular reason you want ultimate? For pretty much all home uses, Home and Pro are fine. Unless you want bitlocker for some odd reason

Previous versions of iTunes were problematic on x64 systems.
Current x64 version of iTunes works fine on Win7 x64.

Previous versions wouldn't install the optical drive component (Bonjour, was it?), couldn't burn discs, and had stability issues.

Win7 x64 seems to run 32 bit applications just fine.

If your system can handle it, I see no reason not to get Win7 x64.

If your processor can handle 64bit systems, then get it.

I've been running Win7 64 for abooooout 7 months now, and havnt had a hitch.

(except my HD fried [unrelated to win] and i had to format)
everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously.

I'm holding the full version that I got from Newegg in my hands already, lol.  I appreciate the help though.

Still debating on which one to install.  I REALLY don't want any unnecessary incompatibilities just so I can use an extra 700-something of RAM

You can always install the other version later. You really shouldnt have any real problems except for maybe REALLY old stuff

Yeah most stuff should work.  Obviously if it has a 16 bit installer it won't work on any 64 bit OS.   The only software I have ever had problems with on Vista 64 are ones that have an OS check prior to install.  I'm 100% sure the couple I have run into would run fine it's just since Vista isn't on the list of supported os's (as it wasn't even thought of when written) it won't even run the installer.
