Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.

Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it "Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold."

But the main reason that people need to have auto insurance is so that damage can be covered if they do damage to someone else's car in an accident that is their fault.

Why should the government be able to mandate what a citizen has to do to cover themselves if they need care? If they don't want coverage, the government should not require them to be covered, they should just have to find a way to pay for their own choice.

Probably because it does end up affecting other people. Instead of just complaining about paying for illegal aliens why don't we talk about the millions of Americans driving up the cost for all of us.

You can see this coming, in every dark cloud there is a silver lining and for the insurance industry I can see the silver lining that would be real wet dream for them if it came to fruition.

Here is the worst case scenerio for the public on health care insurace reform

1. law mandating everyone must purchase health insurance
2. no public option, no co-op, nothing from the govt to compete with big insurance (may be some vague promise of something maybe in the future to pacify us as we a lead to financial slaughter.
3. no reform permiting medicare to negotiate the price of pharmaceuticals down

If those things come to pass, the the health insurance reform will screw each and every person living in the US. We will have no choice but to bend over and pay them whatever they want and if we decide not to, we will be fined and imprisoned... now that is really crooked shit.
And big insurance will have taken a potential disaster for them and turned it into a govt mandated cash cow.

So, IMO watch out for these proposals because they are probably being pushed to either scuttle the reform or to turn the reform in to the bastard child of big insurance.

Makes we wonder who is pushing these proposals and how much big inurance is paying them. IMO these guys are climbing all overt hemselves to get a pay day at our expense. what a bunch of crooks.

Anyway, didn't one of the democratic members on the finance committee who voted no on the public option get $3.5 million from the health insurance industry.... I wonder if the reform is written by that guy, who would benefit the most.

How do I get rid of my life so I don't have to buy health insurance? Suicide is illegal.

Edit - ATG, it's a joke.

Finance Committee Democrat Won’t Read Text of Health Bill, Says Anyone Who Claims They’ll Understand It ‘Is Trying to Pull the Wool Over Our Eyes’

Sen. Thomas Carper (D.-Del.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, told CNSNews.com that he does not “expect” to read the actual legislative language of the committee’s health care bill because it is “confusing” and that anyone who claims they are going to read it and understand it is fooling people.

“I don’t expect to actually read the legislative language because reading the legislative language is among the more confusing things I’ve ever read in my life,” Carper told CNSNews.com.
Senate Finance Dem: Health Care Bill Text Is 'Gibberish,' 'Incomprehensible,' 'One of the More Confusing Things I've Ever Read'...
