Administration Will Cut Border Patrol Deployed on U.S-Mexico Border

Border Patrol Director of Media Relations Lloyd Easterling confirmed this week--as I first reported in my column yesterday--that his agency is planning for a net decrease of 384 agents on the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal 2010, which begins on October 1.

What the fuck is the Obama Administration thinking? Cutting Border Patrol Guards may save you cash in the short run, but then you'll be stuck with illegals sapping the system, an increase in drug running across the border and smuggling...which means you end up wasting the cash you saved and more.

Meh, if the problem of illegal immigration could be solved simply by adding more border patrol agents then you guys should have just gone with that whole "Gi-massive Wall" idea.

Still, the border patrol agents are the chewing gum holding the dam together and I don't quite see the logic of removing them, especially when there are currently no other plans for ways of dealng with illegal immigration from the Mexican border.

He's still got good poll numbers. The real problem for the Republicans if he gets away with something like that is that it makes the border states of Texas, New Mexico and Arizona distinctly 'bluer'. Obama is nothing if not a politician and every step he's made since he's become president has been to cement the Democrats in power for a long time. Sure, plenty of people are pissed off but with the UAW and other bailouts he's effectively guaranteed those voters will vote (D) for the rest of their lives.

He's dangerous because he really doesn't give a crap about the rest of us. He doesn't care about long term plans or anything like that. He's been campaigning for reelection since his inauguration. If it's going to win votes to the (D) banner he'll be behind it and damn the consequences.

I thought there was at least some federal law banning the military from being used on U.S. soil for domestic law enforcement. (you can argue that in this case it might not be "domestic", or to deploy the army on US soil the President has to declare a national emergency.

They've deployed our military for crowd control purposes in the past. Heck, they deployed the military to New Orleans after Katrina to stop the looting.

I honestly think that it's about time some more "training exercises" took place along that border, but as I said, the army has it's hands full abroad atm. If they are to come home, it's where they are most needed now.
