On a more serious note, I'd estimate the same as an overglocked 4870 since the 5870 uses ½ of what the stock 4870 does...

I´m planning on buying a quadcore, seeing that the prices dropped decently
to a level where I want to spent money on one to add some power to my GTX 260.
1. Is it actually still worth buying one or wiser to wait maybe a year and upgrade to an i7 rig or similar ?
2. I have 150 € limit. Do I get a good quadcore for that money that is reasonable overclockable ?

what is your current motherboard? if your mobo supports a quad, it will drop right in, so you pay just for the cpu.
how much RAM do you have? Ram is the best upgrade, in terms of simplicity/value
how long will this upgrade last you? meaning, are you just wanting something til the i7 prices drop, or do you intend for this to be good for 2-3 years?
there is nothing wrong investing a little to get you to your next build. but sometimes it's throwing good money after bad, when you could save this and upgrade your whole platform.

I have a Gigabyte motherboard that supports quadcores, so no extra cost there.
My 4 gigs of RAM should be enough for first too, I guess.
Well normally I upgrade every 2,5 - 3 years and the quadcore would fit in to that cycle since i bought my 260 last november

4Gigs is more than enough. Many i7 setups have 6GB and they barely utilize it all on normal day-to-day. A quad core would suit the upgrade quite well, especially seeing BC2 has stuck its neck out into the "UUU NEED A QUAD TO RUN MEEEEEE" scene.
Just checked some prices and test and have a feeling the 8400 is a good bang for buck
with quite some more than decent OC capablilties.

Finray's OC'd one is running good aswell afaik...
But tbh, get an i5 750 if you want a budget CPU today.. Unless you already have the mobo for LGA775

No I was running my E5200 on 1.5, but I took the clock off cause I has some startup issues, which I fixed with resetting my cmos.

honestly, i don't know the difference - we went from the 8400 to the 9400 to the i7 860's.
there are a couple of CAD techs still on 9400's, i will say everyone we've upgraded has been happy.
