I want an SSD.

How much would I have to spend to get one?

It really isn't worth it unless you get good one. I paid 200€ for 80GB.

Well I would describe it being biggest difference since going from single to dual core in non-gaming use.

Well I went from single core to quad core, but I get your point.

The only 80GB ones I can see are Intel ones, guessing you got an Intel one?

I don't have any first-hand experience with SSD's but based on this I can definately see myself getting a small SSD for OS & programs for my next computer when this one goes obsolete (~1-2 years)... by then prices will hopefully have dropped to a more reasonable level :3

yep, the Intel X25-M G2 (gen 2 meaning its 34nm)

First thing you notice is load times being very quick, and overall the responsiveness will get amazing boost.

I love my X25M-G2 160GB. Even makes my lowly 2.26GHz C2D lappy lightning fast
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

It is the obsolete 50nm model that is not manufactured anymore.

Well these sure are expensive ... £340 for the Intel 160GB one.

I wonder when the prices will come down towards HDD prices.

Hopefully not as long as it took HDD prices to get low.

500 USD used to be around 800-700 CHF. Now it's 500CHF. Everything is so cheap nowadays

For gaming, watching movies and shit.

Just for general use.

I'm looking at a 25" Hanns G, since it's a lot cheaper than a 26" Samsung.

You get what you pay for, you cheap fuck.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
