We're talking non-poor people here Finray. I doubt SM has anything less than an iPhone 3GS. Safari is better because the system was built around it. Same for the browser on my Android phone.

Yes. They're so ridiculously outdated that even businesses are abandoning them and it takes a massive shift for them to even consider changing platforms. BB's are given away for like $10 with a data plan here.

Good move Finray. Now you can get back to explaining how people can fashion a gaming rig out of $200 and bubble gum.

It's a web browser on a three inch screen. It doesn't need to do anything more than allow reading of web pages on the go. No one is doing web design on their phone

it has a really shitty tab interface and it has errors logging me in to plenty of sites that other ones have no trouble with.  plus its slower.

and what phone are you using with a 3 inch screen?  mines 4.3...

3.8" htc MyTouch 4G

I never have any issues with the default browser unless I'm going to flash heavy sites or I leave the browser on this sites live page. Then it bogs down and requires a restart, but I'd expect that from any browser really.

Well, here's the thing Finray, you're the kind of basement dweller that sings the praises of stuff like OpenOffice and actually believes that it is better than MS Excel when you, like all of the other basement dwellers that spend their days on computers instead of earning money so they can actually buy stuff, only hold that opinion because it is free and you are too poor to buy it. So whenever you have an opinion on a subject I'll give you a nice pat on the head if you like, but I'd prefer it if you kept your trap shut. You'll never earn style points with me by shopping at the thrift store and trying to pass it off as the latest fashion.

Wrong again Jay. I've had several legit copies of the m$ office package and it is a lot better than OpenOffice. I don't quite see how this relates to browsers, though.

Also thanks for bringing insults and assumptions and general belittling into this, when I was just looking for a discussion. Real mature.

Good God you're a bitter [strike]little[/strike] fat man. I use OpenOffice, because I can't afford to buy Microsoft Office, yet I have a job. Office is too expensive for me, OpenOffice suits my needs. Do I feel the need to to pay however much it is? Looks to be about £85 for a student here. No, I don't.

Actually. I can get Access, Project, Visio, OneNote 2010 for free. But I don't need them.

OpenOffice's word processor is enough for me. Much like you're default-mobile-browser argument "It doesn't need to do anything more than allow reading of web pages on the go". OpenOffice's word processor does nothing more than allow typing of characters on my computer.

So, now that I've put you in your (rather large) place, why do you insist on just having a pop at people, including finray, for absolutely nothing? You just turned and went hostile on him without provocation.

I have no idea why your opera is doing that, I only use the basic browser on my iPhone, not had any problems with it. I had opera on my iPod, but the text was too small on the page for me to read.

Corporate hasn't moved away from Blackberry because of the phones, but because of the huge infrastructure and costs.  Corporate BB requires a dedicated BB Exchange Server, plus unlimited Enterprise data plans.  Instead, many Corporates are moving to decentralized phone plans.  Basically, some reimbursement scheme, allowing employees to purchase their own plans, and utilize a secure email app like TouchDown.  I know this because I was part of the phone conversion initiative group..  I get reimbursed $100/month, adding my corporate phone to my family plan.  You'd think $100 is a lot, but the BB plan was insanely more expensive.
